How to Create Keyboard Shortcuts in Windows 7

You can use keyboard shortcuts to navigate Windows 7 in record time.

Why move your hands over to the touchpad or mouse when you can hit a couple of keys to launch your favorite programs? Assign keys that you'll remember. For example, we have Ctrl + Alt + W set to launch Microsoft Word and Ctrl + Alt + C for Google Chrome.

Note that you may run into problems if you assign the same key to multiple programs, or if a program you have open uses the same shortcut for one of its functions. To create your own keyboard shortcut for any application:

  1. Right-click on the program's Start menu shortcut, and select Properties.
  2. Click the Shortcut tab.
  3. Select the Shortcut key box.
  4. Hit a combination of Ctrl + Alt + any key (e.x., Ctrl + Alt + F).
  5. Click OK.
