How to Uninstall Programs in Windows 10

  • MORE

uninstall appsUninstalling unwanted programs is one of the most common and important tasks that all PC users perform. However, if you're new to Windows 10, you may not know how to remove every app. The old-school Programs and Features and control panel menu that Windows 7 and XP users are used to still exists, but won't actually delete newer kinds of apps.

Whether it is a desktop program, a Windows 8-style Modern app or a new-fangled Universal app, there's one simple way to remove it. Here's how to uninstall any program in Windows 10, even if you don't know what kind of app it is.

  1. Open the Start menu.

    Start button

  2. Click Settings.

    settings

  3. Click System on the Settings menu.

    Select System

  4. Select Apps & features from the left pane.

    Select apps & features

A list of all installed apps appears in the right pane.

  5. Select an app you wish to uninstall.

    select app

  6. Click the Uninstall button that appears. If it is grayed out, this is a system app you cannot remove.

    Click uninstall

  7. Click the Uninstall pop-up button to confirm.

     click uninstall

Yep, it works --- to a point. I managed to "uninstall" something called PlutoTV that way, and now it's no longer there or in Programs and Features, BUT

This is nice but only covers what windows will allow you to uninstall. Can't uninstall the Store or 3dBuilder this way.

To permanently delete some additional apps (about 15 apps) select start -> all apps -> windows power shell and start power shell as an administrator.

    Command to uninstall the Store:
    Get-AppxPackage *store* | Remove-AppxPackage

you can do that for skype, get office, maps, money, news, 3d builder etc.

For a complete list of packages which includes uninstallable system apps like Cortina and Edge enter:

    Get-AppxPackage > C:\packages.txt

Browse to the root level of the C drive to open packages.txt

    Hello!
I have followed all the instructions. After it says that its successfully installed I can still see the app in the settings and sometimes pop-up text like do you want to update shows. This is very annoying. I want to delete some programs permently so the programs aren't even in the computer. Some program was included when I bought the computer therefore refresh the computer will not help. How can I permently remove them?

Nice procedure, and I was able to use it to remove several Apps. However the Xbox app will not uninstall. Several Microsoft programs e.g. XBox and Weather) will show the Move Uninstall dropdown, but when tapping the Uninstall, the popup with the button to actually uninstall doesn't show up and nothing happens.

  • Samantha Says:

Followed all directions, however what pops up after I click "uninstall" is the question asking, "Do you want this app to update software on your PC. Yes/No" Now what do I do? Thank You.
