Mio DigiWalker H610 Review

Our Verdict

The DigiWalker Mio is a fun, feature-packed pocket GPS device.

Mio turns the ho-hum navigator into a fun lifestyle device. We were impressed by how attractive the results were, and by how many features the developers managed to fit in a small space. Besides offering turn-by-turn GPS, the DigiWalker H610 offers a music, video, and photo player, a suite of travel apps, a contact database, and several fun games. And at 3.9 ounces and only 0.7 inches thick, this navigator makes other GPS units seem needlessly bulky by comparison.

The DigiWalker Mio comes with two different wrist straps (one with two plastic points that work as a stylus) and a suction-cup mount. Surprisingly, the small screen isn't a problem when driving, and the bright display and clear spoken directions made the DigiWalker H610 a pleasure to use.

We were disappointed that not enough was done to adapt this product for a U.S. audience. The device and the manual make frequent references to identifying "speed cams," a U.K. concern, and the British speed limit sign is used to give road speeds. Also, the Mio failed to get us to the correct destination once during testing, bringing us several blocks away on the target road. Overall, though, the DigiWalker H610 is our favorite pocket-friendly navigator.
