Magellan RoadMate 6000T Review

The Verdict: The RoadMate 6000T is more complicated than it needs to be.

Magellan hasn't learned to keep its controls as simple as Garmin has, and using the 6000T's menus can be tricky. We dislike that you must exit the route screen to see the destination menu, which holds things like your address book and list of previous destinations, and that you can view traffic alerts only for your route, not the entire area.

Buyers get three months of traffic data for free, but receiving the information requires plugging in an unwieldy wire FM-antenna and suction-cupping it to your window. A full subscription costs $60 per year and works in 51 metropolitan areas. Traffic info came through fine in our testing.
Magellan has chosen to load this unit with physical buttons on the top, sides, and bottom. So when you try to wrangle it free from its suction cup mount-a mount that takes two hands to set and still doesn't hold a position well-you're sure to press at least three buttons you didn't mean to press.
We like that the unit pronounces street names and that it can play back music tracks or show photos. But the 6000T has no free internal memory, so you'll need to supply your own SD Card to store media. We say pay the extra $100 for the Garmin StreetPilot c550.
