Best Enabling Technology: Nvidia Ion Platform

Best Enabling Technology

Nvidia Ion Platform

Nvidia’s Ion platform, which combines its GeForce 9400 GPU with the Intel Atom CPU, enables the smallest laptops to play full 1080p high definition video, run all of Windows Vista features and even run Call of Duty 4 at a decent frame rate. Nvidia also claims it delivers ten times the current graphics performance of Atom's current chipset and can perform as well as a Intel Centrino 2 platform.

Pretty lofty claim, right? We thought so too until we saw Nvidia's Pico ITX Reference PC, that is was no bigger than a router, run Call of Duty 4 and a high defitnion video without a hiccup on a large TV.  Touted as having minimal affect on battery life we are counting the days until a netbook vendor pairs the new enabling technology with the current Atom platform to create netbooks that can handle it all.
