The Logitech MX Master 3 or MX Master 3S have dominated the best wireless mouse discussion since they launched in 2019 and 2022, respectively. While mice aren't updated on as aggressive a cycle as the best laptops, that's still a pretty long time since a meaningful change to the popular mouse.

Thanks to images published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office, we finally got a good look at what appears to be the long-awaited Logitech MX Master 4. Now, to be clear, the product name doesn't appear anywhere in the listing, but if you've ever seen an MX Master mouse, this is unmistakable.

What's new in the MX Master 4?

The images (shown below) provide a close-up view of the mouse from multiple angles, revealing a similar profile but a few key differences from its predecessor.

The most notable upgrade is a new button, positioned slightly ahead of the familiar two side buttons below the scroll wheel, on the edge of the mouse. This will be a welcome addition to the productivity enthusiasts who tend to gravitate to the MX Master line.

The large side button, where your thumb rests on the MX Master, is also much more pronounced in this new design. It formerly was blended into the mouse seamlessly, but now it clearly stands out as another button with a dotted circular design toward the front.

Looking at the top of the mouse, the right and left buttons now run uniformly across the top. On the MX Master 3 and 3S, there was a division between them running up to the main scroll wheel. The button below them shifts slightly down to account for that change, and the charging/battery LED moves from the side of the mouse to just below that button.

Unfortunately, we don't get any connectivity, battery, or DPI specs to go off of. The MX Master 3S offered an 8000 DPI sensor, so it's safe to assume the MX Master 4 will at least match that.

For now, we have to settle for some fairly subtle design changes and, of course, one more remappable button.

As a longtime user of the MX Master 3 and 3S, I'm pleased to see that the overall design remains similar, as the ergonomics are great for me. However, I hope Logitech has implemented a few more internal upgrades and that the material quality has improved. My white MX Master 3S still performs well, but the finish on it has worn away quickly.

When will the MX Master 4 launch?

The listing didn't provide any specific clues regarding a launch date, but the existence of the listing indicates that it is likely only months away.

The MX Master 3 was released in September of 2019, and the MX Master 3S was released in June of 2022, so we are in the expected window if Logitech sticks to its 3-year schedule.

Logitech has debuted something special in its latest iPad accessory package — a protective case for the tablet and a keyboard with the Logitech quality and creativity you'd expect.

Specifically, there are two reasons why it tops the Apple Magic Keyboard. The first has to do with separating me from my cash, and the second is a literal separation in the product design.

On Wednesday, the company debuted the Flip Folio, made for the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air and Pro models. After using the Flip Folio hands-on for a few days, I’ve realized it’s the perfect match for my iPad, while undercutting the cost of Apple's first-party keyboards released a year ago.

The Logitech Flip Folio’s price feels right for a keyboard case

It's hard to ignore the economics when you compare the Flip Folio to Apple's Magic Keyboard products. After all, the cost difference most likely grabs your attention when buying established products like keyboards and protective cases. The technology is well-established, and the margins are razor-thin on discrepancies between how the products perform daily.

Logitech’s Flip Folio offers much of the same core functionality as Apple's pair of Magic Keyboard accessories, for lower prices, as the table below shows. (However, the prices below are list prices, and Apple iPad accessories frequently go on sale.)

The Flip Folio fixes a big complaint people have about Apple’s iPad keyboards

Unlike Apple’s all-in-one keyboard cases, which magnetically attach to the iPad as a single unit, the Flip Folio separates the case and the Bluetooth keyboard.

In practice, this means you can toss the keyboard aside once you're done typing. Or better yet, snap it onto the magnetic compartment carved out at the back of the case.

With Apple's first-party iPad keyboard offerings, you must remove the case entirely if you want to ditch the keyboard and use the tablet solo, or even a stylus. I primarily bought my iPad for note-taking, and sometimes I would switch between writing with the Apple Pencil. But Apple’s keyboards didn’t offer a way to write comfortably with a stylus without removing the case entirely.

So, I bought Logitech’s Pebble Keys 2 K380s, a standalone keyboard connected wirelessly to my iPad. But since it wasn’t part of the case, I had to store it separately, and I’d forget to bring it along more times than I’d like to admit.

So, it's incredible to see Logitech finally solve a problem Apple never really bothered to and make the iPad feel like a tablet and a laptop without compromise.

As with most Logitech keyboards, like the POP Icon Keys keyboard Laptop Mag reviewed, the Flip Folio’s keyboard supports multi-device Bluetooth pairing, meaning it can switch between up to three Bluetooth-enabled (Apple or not) devices with the press of a button.

Instead of the standard function keys of the iPad Magic Keyboard, the Flip Folio keyboard features four iPadOS-specific shortcut keys: to bring up Spotlight Search, switch between apps, open the Emoji picker, and quickly capture screenshots. As we saw at WWDC on Monday, Spotlight Search is getting a significant overhaul, which makes this addition very well timed by Logitech.

So, instead of needing to remember keyboard shortcuts like pressing the Command key and the Spacebar to bring up Spotlight Search, this keyboard lets you do the same with the press of a button.

The Folio creases slightly, but it doesn’t affect functionality

The case also feels sturdy and is made of premium material. Unlike Apple's rigid design, it folds into a built-in kickstand, giving you multiple viewing angles. Logitech touts that the Flip Folio is made of at least 37% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Folding it initially takes some effort and creates a visible crease at the back of the case. That said, the crease disappears mostly once you snap the case back into its flat form, so it’s not something you’ll constantly notice.

Laptop Mag contacted Logitech about the crease, and the company mentioned the “hinge is designed to provide reliable, multi-angle viewing through a mixture of design, mechanical tuning, and material placement.” The company confirmed the crease is intentional and assured me it’ll remain the same size without degrading over time. Given how premium it feels and the sturdy build, I’m inclined to trust that claim.

The Flip Folio is available globally today in Graphite, with additional colors like Black (a North American exclusive), Sand, Pale Grey, and Lilac arriving in select regions later this year.

The Logitech MX Creative Console takes the unique form factor of a stream deck and reimagines it as a productivity device for creative professionals. Is it a useful peripheral for creative work or a novelty add-on? That depends.

Creative workflows can vary a lot – some people have a rolodex of Photoshop shortcuts memorized while others rely on learning exactly where every setting is buried in the menus of Premiere Pro. The MX Creative Console is designed for a wide variety of creative tasks, but how useful it actually is depends heavily on how any individual creative pro likes to work.

The MX Creative Console has a lot going for it, particularly its sheer convenience. With an approachable price, a handy set of tools, and loads of customization options, it could be a game changer for many creatives.

Here’s a look at my experience testing out the Logitech MX Creative Console and a few things you should know before adding one to your workspace.

Logitech MX Creative Console: Price and availability

The Logitech MX Creative Console is available for $199 on Amazon in two colors: graphite and pale gray. It includes the two-part console with a wireless dialpad, a wired keypad, a stand for the keypad, and a code for a three-month Adobe Creative Cloud membership (which you can use even if you are a current/past Creative Cloud subscriber).

Logitech MX Creative Console: Design

The first thing I thought of when I saw the MX Creative Console was a stream deck. If you’ve never used one before, a stream deck is like a panel of buttons dedicated to shortcuts and plugins. People who livestream on Twitch or YouTube typically use them to conveniently control their stream settings, though their robust software allows them to be used in plenty of other situations.

Logitech took that same concept and redesigned it for creatives with the MX Creative Console. It’s split into two parts: the keypad and the dialpad. The keypad is wired with a detachable USB Type-C cable while the dialpad is wireless. So, you can place the two devices on opposite sides of your desk if you want.

The keypad is effectively a mini Stream Deck with nine buttons for various controls and shortcuts and two buttons for scrolling between pages of controls on the main nine buttons. A plastic stand is included so you can prop up the keypad or sit it flat on your desk.

The dialpad has a large central rotary dial, a roller in the top right corner, and four buttons in the other three corners. You can use the dial for any number of things, but it’s designed specifically for precision tasks that require smooth movement, like scrolling through a timeline in Premiere Pro or adjusting brush size in Photoshop.

Both pads have a matching plastic chassis with a subtle duotone effect. The top half is a darker slightly textured tone while the bottom half is a lighter, metallic shade. The dial itself has a matte metallic finish that’s cool to the touch.

Logitech MX Creative Console: Performance

I tested the Logitech MX Creative Console with a few Adobe apps and a general profile for my everyday writing workflow. The keypad and dialpad both came in handy, but it varies between apps.

For example, the dialpad was a game changer in Premiere Pro but I barely used it in Photoshop. The keypad was much more useful there since it provided a convenient hub for quickly selecting different tools and making adjustments, which would usually require clicks or keyboard shortcuts.

This gets to the crux of whether or not the MX Creative Console is a useful peripheral or not. It depends heavily on how you work in your favorite creative apps. People who have many keyboard shortcuts memorized may not find the keypad all that useful, but if you don’t use keyboard shortcuts or often forget them, the keypad could be a lifesaver. Likewise, the dialpad is fantastic for specific tasks, but it can be otherwise easy to forget about.

With that said, both devices perform well at what they’re designed to accomplish. I loved navigating Premiere Pro with the dialpad. The smooth, uninterrupted timeline movement you get with the dialpad is much more precise than the finicky movement of a mouse. It’s a little thing, but if you spend a lot of time editing videos, it will be incredibly convenient.

The keypad also kept up well overall, including quickly updating button assignments and icons when I changed apps. The resolution on the buttons is a bit fuzzy, but it’s definitely clear enough to make out each icon without any trouble.

The ability to add multiple pages of buttons allows you to turn the keypad into a one-stop shop for all of your tools and settings in creative apps. I’m not good at memorizing Photoshop shortcuts and found the keypad far easier to use for quickly swapping tools. If you’re in the same boat, it can really come in handy.

Even when you’re not actively working in a creative app, you can still integrate the MX Creative Console into your workspace. For example, you can assign keypad buttons for system settings like muting your computer’s volume. I wish there were an option for muting your mic, but you can add that with plugins for certain apps, like Discord.

Logitech MX Creative Console: Software

The Logi Options+ app allows you to set up and customize the controls on the MX Creative Console. It also has a marketplace to download profiles for various app plugins, such as Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro. You can create your own custom profiles for apps that aren’t supported through the marketplace, as well.

Logi Options+ is a fairly straightforward app, but there are a lot of options and features to dig through, so it can be a bit overwhelming at first. A good way to get acquainted with everything is by customizing the controls on the action ring or keypad.

For instance, the keypad’s default system settings have the top row set to pause, play, and skip music tracks. Those same functions are in the action ring, though, so I customized my keypad profile to reassign that top row of buttons to quickly launch a few apps (Discord, Slack, and Asperite). I also swapped out the screen brightness button with a “launch application” button for the system settings app.

Logi Options+ will automatically use an app’s desktop icon as its button art on the keypad so you don’t need to manually upload it, which is convenient. You can customize any of the button images if you want to, though.

You can also create different profiles for different scenarios or apps, allowing you to use the MX Creative Console with practically any app you want, regardless of whether or not it’s natively supported through a plugin already.

Of course, creating a custom profile can be tedious and time-consuming. So, you may want to check the marketplace first to see if anyone else has uploaded a custom profile for the app you want to use the MX Creative Console with.

Adding a new profile from the marketplace is fairly easy. Select the keypad in the Logi Options+ app, select “customize keys,” and click the plus sign in the top right corner. Choose the “General profile” option and select “Discover more on marketplace.” Once you find the plugin you want, install it and Logi Options+ will create a new profile with it.

Bottom line

The Logitech MX Creative Console adapts the Stream Deck form factor into a highly customizable productivity device for creators. However, its actual usefulness varies depending on how you use your favorite creative apps.

There are plugins available for all of the main Adobe apps, but if you want to use the console with an app that’s not natively supported, creating your own custom profile for it can be tedious.

The MX Creative Console can be a game-changer when it’s all set up, though. The ability to quickly swap tools in Photoshop without confusing keyboard shortcuts or seamlessly scroll through a timeline in Premiere Pro could be lifesavers for creative professionals.

The MX Creative Console may not be a must-have device, just like its stream deck predecessors, but it definitely has a lot to offer a certain niche of users who want to simplify and streamline their creative workflows.

Best Prime Day accessories for upgrading your MacBook

Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber appeared in a recent episode of The Verge's Decoder podcast to discuss several topics, including the company's hopes to cut its carbon footprint by 50 percent.

However, while Logitech's environmental goals are welcome, Faber's comments on a recent visit to the company's innovation center in Ireland have turned heads online.

Faber mentions how one of the innovation center's team members showed her a "Forever mouse," a presumably future-proof peripheral designed for users to make far longer use of. Faber compares it to a watch. Not in form or function, but more in the sense that a watch can be kept forever with the right upkeep.

While there's no harm in owning more than one watch, there's no real need to dispose of the old one — especially if it's a quality, well-designed product. However, it was the notion that this upkeep could be tied to a paid subscription that raised eyebrows.

The Forever mouse

To be clear, there is currently no future release of a forever mouse expected, though Faber seems to welcome the concept, if it's possible to figure out the right business model for supporting it.

While Nilay Patel, EIC of The Verge, suggests they'd be willing to pay upwards of $200 for a mouse that would last 'forever,' Faber appears to steer the concept into the area of a service model (similar to Logitech's video conferencing services) — meaning a subscription-based model that would see hardware owners pay for continued software support of their forever mouse.

The forever mouse fits snugly within the Logitech CEO's carbon emission goals going forward, with Faber stating that the company hopes to release "Products that last longer because they’re superior and because we can continue to update them over time."

However, that's not to say that everyone else is welcome to the idea of being required to pay a subscription to keep the hardware they own up-to-date. Perhaps this sentiment is best exemplified by Digital Foundry's John Linneman who took to X to share his thoughts on the concept by saying "I’m still using mice from 30 years ago without issue. Putting a subscription on a mouse would mean never buying from Logitech again."

Has the computer mouse peaked?

Comparing the forever mouse's hardware to that of a Rolex watch, Faber points out "Our stuff will have to change, but does the hardware have to change? I’m not so sure." Faber's comments would appear to indicate that the build of the forever mouse would supply everything needed for users as a long-term investment and that software would be the key to its success going forward.

With modern computer mice now adopting 8K polling rates, featuring sensors that can accurately track across virtually any surface, customizable DPI, and having been refined in design over the years to maximize ergonomic comfort, maybe Faber has a point.

It's entirely possible that the overall hardware of the computer mouse has somewhat peaked, and that it's now up to the software to improve the features and customization available to Logitech's peripherals going forward.

One of Logitech's most recent innovations saw its Signature AI Edition M750 wireless mouse outfitted with an AI prompt button. However, the backbone of this new feature was Logitech's Log AI Prompt Builder tool (a ChatGPT-powered app that gives rapid access to generative summaries, revisions, or contextual replies to on-screen text), and not the button itself.

However, this type of service is costly for companies to maintain and could be part of the reason why Faber is open to a subscription model for future hardware, allowing Logitech to continue supplying its users with high-quality features going forward.

It does not have a rechargeable battery, unfortunately, but a single AA battery lasts up to 250 hours, so you won't need to change the battery often.

I've personally been using a Logitech G305 LIGHTSPEED for over three years, so I can attest to its durability. The buttons and scroll wheel are just as clicky and comfortable as when I first bought my G305.

If you often find yourself struggling with a sore wrist or cramping hands after long days working on your laptop, you might want to add a vertical mouse to your setup. The Logitech Lift is the perfect way to level up your ergonomics without adding yet another pesky wire to your desk.

The only real downsides to the Logitech Lift are the lack of a rechargeable battery and the learning curve. Additionally, a vertical mouse can take some getting used to, so be prepared to retrain your muscle memory for the first few hours you're using the Logitech Lift.

Choosing the best wireless mouse for you is all about balancing price with one or two must-have features. Most high-quality wireless mice cost $50 to $70 with more premium models priced at $80 to $100. There are mice that cost far more than that, though, particularly in the gaming niche, where a pro-tier wireless mouse can cost upwards of $150.

The average user should plan to spend around $50 to $65 on a good, all-purpose wireless mouse. The Logitech G305 LIGHTSPEED is a great option in this price range and often goes on sale for as little as $40. The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL uses a particular type of mechanical switch that’s gaining popularity: low-profile switches. They work like full-size mechanical switches, but they’re much flatter. The keycaps on top are flatter, too, allowing low-profile mechanical keyboards to be much thinner than their full-size counterparts. 

If you want a dedicated gaming keyboard but enjoy the flat shape of a laptop keyboard, a low-profile gaming keyboard like the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL could be the perfect fit. Before adding it to your battle station, here's everything you should know.

Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Price and configurations

The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL has two main configurations: wired and tri-mode wireless. The wired-only version costs $99, while the tri-mode wireless version costs $139. At launch in June 2024, only the tri-mode wireless version was available. Logitech plans to launch the wired-only model later this year. Both versions are available in black or white colorways. Each model is available with either tactile or linear switches. 

Our review unit is the black tri-mode wireless version with tactile switches, which includes the keyboard, a detachable USB-C to USB-A cable, and a 2.4GHz USB dongle.

Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Design

I wouldn’t usually opt for a low-profile keyboard, but I have to admit I like the design of the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED. Low-profile mechanical keyboards use special mechanical switches that are flatter than normal switches, with shorter stems and flatter keycaps. They’re not as flat as a laptop keyboard but not as tall as a conventional mechanical keyboard. This design can make typing and gaming more comfortable since your hands can sit parallel to your desk, improving ergonomics. 

The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED is just 22mm thick from the bottom edge of the case to the tops of the keycaps. It also weighs less than 2 pounds, which is a refreshing change for those who don’t like the heavy aluminum cases on many premium keyboards today. 

The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED's aesthetic is clean and minimal. The top case is matte black plastic, and the bottom is matte gray plastic with a textured design underneath for extra grip. The bottom also has a cutout for the USB dongle and two pairs of height adjustment feet. In the top right corner of the case, you’ll find the power switch, caps lock indicator, and battery indicator. 

It’s a TKL keyboard, meaning it has all of the function keys and some media keys but does not have the number pad. This size is one of my favorite layouts, but it isn’t ideal for gamers who rely on the number pad for macros and shortcuts. TKL keyboards are a good size for those who play fast-paced or esports titles, where angling your keyboard often improves performance. A TKL keyboard is still small enough for angling on most desks but retains the full function row.

Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Keys

The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL's low-profile keys may take some getting used to for some gamers, but they can be very comfortable to game and type on. The G515 is available with linear or tactile low-profile switches. It’s crucial to note that the switches are not hot-swappable, so make sure you choose your switch configuration wisely. 

While it’s unfortunate that the switches aren’t hot-swappable, the G515 has standard key spacing and Cherry-style switch buttons, so you can at least change out the keycaps for another set of low-profile caps if you want. The switches are also factory-lubricated, and the included set of keycaps is made of double-shot PBT, which are premium features. 

Our review unit included the tactile switches featuring a 45g actuation force, a 1.3mm actuation distance, and 3.2mm of total key travel. The key travel feels much like on a conventional mechanical keyboard. The only difference is the keycaps and switches are flatter. 

The tactile switches have a medium actuation force but it felt during my testing. The switches felt stiffer than expected, even though they were quite responsive. This may be because the tactile feedback hits sooner in the compressed form factor of a low-profile switch. 

Regardless, I found my fingers and wrists cramping up after long gaming sessions. So, if you prefer lighter switches, choose a configuration with linear switches if you add a Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL to your gaming setup. 

Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Performance

I tested the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED in several games, including fast-paced titles like Roboquest and more casual titles like Minecraft. I didn’t notice any latency issues when using it wirelessly and the wired connection is flawless. The low-profile form factor improves ergonomics overall, especially with the help of the slightly textured PBT keycaps. 

However, I did find my fingers and wrists cramping after long gaming or typing sessions. This was especially evident in Roboquest, which requires quick keystrokes. Pressing and holding keys over a series of long runs eventually became uncomfortable, mainly due to the high actuation force on the tactile switches. 

I prefer lighter switches, so this concern might not be a problem for those who like switches with a high actuation force. One benefit they offer is preventing accidental keystrokes. If that’s a concern for you, these switches could be a great fit. However, if you prefer lighter switches, you’d be better served with a version of the G515 LIGHTSPEED sporting linear switches. 

Despite the high actuation force, the switches on the G515 LIGHTSPEED are very responsive. I found the low-profile form factor comfortable for gaming and typing alike. The flat keycaps make finger movement between keys smoother and quicker than on a conventional keyboard, which is excellent for fast-paced gameplay. 

Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Connectivity and battery

The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED features tri-mode connectivity, meaning you can connect it using Bluetooth, the 2.4GHz wireless dongle, or wired. There’s a trio of buttons in the top left corner of the case for switches between connectivity modes. I tested the G515 LIGHTSPEED in all three modes, and all worked smoothly. 

It’s also worth noting that the G515 supports 2:1 LIGHTSPEED connectivity, meaning if you have another Logitech device with a LIGHTSPEED 2.4GHz USB dongle, you can connect two devices using the same one. This feature can come in handy for saving USB slots on your laptop or PC. 

The wireless battery life on the G515 LIGHTSPEED varies depending on how much you use the RGB backlighting. A full charge lasts about 36 hours with RGB at 100% brightness. You can stretch that if you turn off the backlighting, but it is hard to see the legends since they aren’t painted to allow for RGB shine-through. The RGB backlighting looks great, so you’ll want to have it turned on anyway. 

The battery life could be better, but it’s similar to other wireless gaming keyboards like the Alienware Pro Wireless. If you’re concerned about the battery dying during a game, you can always use the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED wired. It also helps that the battery indicator light will flash red when the battery is getting low.  

Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Software

You can use the Logitech G Hub app to configure and customize the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL. The Logitech G app has a new KEYCONTROL feature for gaming keyboard customization. 

It allows you to tap into a plethora of customization options for the G515. You can remap keys, assign up to 15 functions to a single key, create shortcuts, create “layers” of key assignments, and customize the RGB backlighting. 

Bottom line

The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL's low-profile design takes a fresh approach to gaming keyboards. The result is near perfect, with a few drawbacks. The build quality and materials all feel great, thanks to matte textures throughout. Tri-mode connectivity works flawlessly, especially with the convenience of 2:1 LIGHTSPEED dongle connectivity with other Logitech gaming gear. 

The G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL's core feature is its low-profile design, which can be a game changer. It’s comfortable for both typing and gaming, and the flattened keys can even improve performance by making finger movements between keys smoother and faster. At $139, it’s also a less expensive alternative to Logitech’s full-size low-profile model, the G915. 

It’s disappointing that the G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL isn’t hot-swappable like many other premium gaming keyboards are today. Of course, some gamers might not mind this, but hot swap functionality ensures you can repair defective switches, so it would have been a nice feature to have. 

However, overall, the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL fills a unique niche in the gaming keyboard market, making it a terrific option for gamers who want a mechanical keyboard with a slim form factor. Yesterday, Logitech unveiled the MX Ink, a premium mixed reality stylus that seeks to bring a traditional computing peripheral into the virtual and augmented reality realm.

As announced in a recent blog post, the MX Ink will be joining Logitech's esteemed MX Master line that champions precision, performance, and superior ergonomic handling. It's a lineup that already includes some incredible accessories — several of which can be found in our best mouse roundup.

However, the MX Ink isn't designed with the intention of enhancing your desktop interactions for laptops or PCs. Instead, the MX Ink is mixed reality-bound, heading to Meta Quest headsets to offer intuitive, creative precision to designers, artists, engineers, and Metaverse minds alike.

Logitech MX Ink: What is it?

Logitech's MX Ink is a stylus, which says a lot about what it is and what it can do. After all, a pencil is just a pencil, and a pen is just a pen. These are often tools that excel when placed in the right hands. However, the MX Ink also includes its own bag of tricks to make any hand holding it more proficient and capable in several ways.

Designed to be used with Meta's VR/AR headsets, the MX Ink pairs seamlessly with Quest devices, allowing users to switch between controllers and stylus at will, or mix and match the experience by holding a controller in one hand and the MX Ink in the other.

Marking the first time that Quest headsets have allowed more than two peripherals to be connected at once, the MX Ink offers an all-new control method designed for precision and natural, intuitive performance across several of the Meta Store's most popular apps including:

A similar level of pressure sensitivity can also be applied in the 3D space with the MX Ink's fingertip-positioned pressure-sensing switch, allowing users to control the force and strength of each stroke of the stylus without needing to press against a physical surface.

The MX Ink is set to be another fantastic option for VR users to have in their tool belt in the near future, with both the $129.99 MX Ink and MX Inkwell charging dock becoming available later this year alongside the $49.99 MX Mat.

It's also a tool Meta owners will have access to exclusively, with no Vision Pro alternative currently available — despite the recent release of the Apple Pencil Pro, a device that many predicted would include support for Apple's premium "spatial computing" headset. However, that's not to say that the Vision Pro will be without Apple Pencil support for long.

Apple Pencil Pro x Vision Pro: What could have been (and may still be)

Apple's "Let Loose" iPad event in May revealed the new Apple Pencil Pro, and, to the delight of many, it was a substantial update that saw the peripheral outfitted with a number of key upgrades.

Unfortunately, none of these appeared to align with the unique capabilities of the Vision Pro — Apple's spatial computing headset designed to bring virtual and augmented reality experiences to the Apple ecosystem.

This has left the Vision Pro to rely solely on hand tracking during immersive bouts of creativity. Something which Meta's Quest headsets have long been able to compensate for with their wireless controllers, and now the Logitech MX Ink.

However, rumors of an Apple Pencil-like controller heading to the Vision Pro have been bandied about for some time. The most prominent of which came after January saw Apple publish a patent for a "handheld controller" designed to be used with a "head-mounted device" that looked remarkably similar to an Apple Pencil.

While details about the capabilities of this controller are scarce, some of the patent's documentation does point to the Pencil-like peripheral being able to magnetically attach to the side of a head-mounted device for storage and charging — similar to how the Apple Pencil and Apple Pencil Pro snap to the side of iPads.

That being said, patents are no indication that a product will eventually enter development. However, MacRumors has reported that sources close to the project have confirmed that Apple is currently working on a new Apple Pencil with visionOS support. So there still appears to be hope for Vision Pro owners who might be a little envious of the experiences heading to Quest headsets through the Logitech MX Ink later this year.

With the increased focus on information security in the corporate world, employment self-preservation dictates that you should assume anything you do on your work laptop is being viewed by your employer. 

Avoid Instagram, personal email, Reddit, WhatsApp, all of it. Some folks don’t even use the company wifi on their iPhones, which also seems like a not-terrible idea. If this all sounds a little paranoid — and it might be! — just let the anecdotes of companies spying on their employees in the name of security wash over you: There’s seemingly a new tale every few months of creepiness that has leaked beyond the barriers of NDAs and HR departments.

Why buy a portable keyboard?

What does all this have to do with a portable keyboard review? Well, a portable keyboard might be the solution to this modern problem. Suppose you need to attend to critical personal matters at work, say on your lunch break or in an emergency-ish situation like sending your child’s medical forms to their school. Or you just want to engage in that one never-ending group text with your friends about an international soccer tournament. Pecking out those hot takes and inside jokes on your phone's tiny keyboard is slow and often not at all fun. The alternative might be signing into iMessage with your personal Apple ID on your work laptop, which also feels like a minefield. (Do not set up your iMessage on your work computer, people!)

If you lug your personal laptop to work on the subway, you might be tempted to use the company’s wifi, another no-no. The lines get blurrier if you’re one of the millions of people who work from home. In the comfort of your own living room, you might, without realizing it, do something personal on your work-issued laptop and regret it — or at least worry about it. Toggling between personal and work computers at home is also tedious.

The solution for me, and I hope for you, is to do your personal stuff on your iPhone or iPad during work hours. You deserve a break; just don’t take it on your work computer. 

Ensure your work-issued laptop is pristine, and use the Keys-To-Go 2 from Logitech to quickly power through personal tasks on your phone, free from the gaze of corporate Sauron. 

Logitech's marketing for its newest keyboard is all about jet setting; a briefing room in Manhattan prepared for the media was made up to resemble a boarding gate at an airport. Don't get me wrong; I traveled with the keyboard, and it was good. But I used this powerful clicky keyboard, which you never have to charge, every day — not just while traveling. It's absolutely perfect for personal tasks while at work.

The Keys-to-Go 2 includes a few terrific upgrades from the first-generation keyboard, released in November 2014, nearly a decade ago.

What's new in the Logitech Keys-to-Go 2

In my own ranked order, here are the top five upgrades for the Logitech Keys-to-Go 2 keyboard over the original: 

1. It runs on two CR-2032 coin-cell batteries, aka Apple Air Tag batteries. There is no longer a micro-USB; it seems that 2007 technology is finally going away.
   
2. The power button is easy to turn on and off. The first-generation model had a recessed power button that was, at best, difficult and, at worst, painful to toggle. This new keyboard has a raised slider that approaches satisfying in its action.
   
3. It has a magnetic cover that stops the keyboard from sliding across your desk, even more so if your desk is metal.
   
4. That cover also protects the newly raised keys, which make typing a speedy, buoyant exercise. Key travel is the same distance as the first-generation keyboard (1 millimeter), but these keys are raised off the deck. Finally, there are 18 millimeters between keys instead of 17, and that little sliver of space makes a titanic difference.
   
5. It’s somehow even slimmer-feeling and tougher than the original. 

An honorable mention for the Keys-To-Go 2 for me, but maybe a deciding factor for you, is that Logitech brought its Easy Switch technology to the keyboard. You can quickly toggle between three devices using the same keyboard. If you, like me, love a Logitech mouse (MX Master 3 for life!), you’ll be familiar with this function. The keyboard also has a new top row of shortcut keys to control brightness, add emojis, control volume, and play or pause media, among other functions. 

Rebecca Wang, Global Product Manager at Logitech, tells Laptop Mag the decision to go with two batteries (which give it a three-year life) was based on two factors: The team wanted to keep the design slim, and a Micro USB port wouldn’t support that. And, she says, “people don't want to necessarily bother with rechargeable solutions on the go because sometimes we struggle to find power.” Amen.

The cover, a welcome addition to this peripheral, is more than an add-on. Gen-1 of this keyboard had fabric-wrapped keys to improve its durability. But fabric-wrapped keys aren’t the most fun for extensive typing. It’s something Wang’s team heard from users. So they made the Keys-To-Go 2’s keys more like the keys of a traditional laptop – fun to click on but very sensitive to drops and spills. Enter the magnetized cover, which stays shut in my backpack on bikes and subways, and protects the keys.

“I think it's a great accomplishment that we've been able to achieve — creating such a thin and light keyboard while still bringing a great typing experience,” Wang tells Laptop. 

After using this keyboard a lot over the past few weeks to keep my work computer free of chat about the Euros or family texts about my nephew’s birthday, I don’t disagree with Wang. The typing experience is far better than what you might expect from a tiny keyboard, which comes in two key layouts. A universal one (Android, ChromeOS, Windows, iPadOS, iOS, and macOS) and an Apple one (iPadOS, iOS, and macOS).

Just on the toughness of this super-thin (8.77mm/third of an inch) and super-light (222 grams/half a pound) keyboard: The flex exists. And it will break if you sit on it. But you can rest assured that if you throw it into your duffel bag for a trip to Oahu or the office, it will be in good shape when you pull it out and turn it on. 

No more charging anxiety

The batteries eliminate the charge anxiety that I feel with my mechanical Keychron keyboard. I opt to use the cable connection instead of Bluetooth for fear of losing power at the worst possible time. With the Keys-To-Go 2, I know there’s a two-hour shut-off timer, and having used Apple Air Tags for years now, I’m familiar enough with the lifespan of a CR-2032 coin cell battery. There’s also a liberation in knowing you cannot control something: If it dies, it dies. 

Speaking of changing batteries, the Keys-To-Go 2 doesn’t come with the tool you need to change them. We’re talking about the T-5 Torx screwdriver. Familiar to home electronics enthusiasts and bicycle mechanics, the star-shaped bolts that keep the battery cover closed can only be loosened with a tool that sells for about $3-$5. (Batteries for the Keys-to-Go 2 are included.)

“Since most customers likely already have one on hand, we decided not to include the screwdriver,” a Logitech spokesperson tells Laptop via email when we ask if we can borrow a tiny screwdriver. 

The rep also notes that “the T5 Torx screwdriver is the typical screwdriver associated with repairs around the house, and it has become commonly available in tech toolkits/precision screwdriver sets for electronics, watches, and glasses.”

Worst-case scenario, you have three years to buy one T5 screwdriver or get a fancy Torx set.

Bottom line

Let’s talk about cost for a second. The MSRP for the Keys-To-Go 2 is $79.99, which is $10 more than its predecessor. Wang explains the jump to Laptop like this: “The cost of things has gone up and this is definitely part of it, but we also think we provide more value — like adding features like Easy Switch, which is not present on previous generations. We also updated the shortcut keys to add more relevant features.”

The Logitech Logi Dock is either a dock with conferencing capabilities or a conferencing tool with dock functionality. Honestly, it’s hard to say either way. What I know for sure is that Logitech’s docking station makes for a fine desktop companion, especially for those with limited space.

Logitech’s prowess in delivering fantastic peripherals and accessories almost goes without saying at this point. Be it a mouse, keyboard, or deep-sea diving gamepad, Logitech has you covered. The Logi Dock is no exception, offering a fantastic dock with built-in audio and conferencing tools alongside a fair amount of ports.

If you’re in the market for a dock to suit your business needs, I’ll cut right to the chase and let you know that the Logi Dock is one of the best docking stations to serve that purpose. Even if you’re just looking for an all-in-one solution for port expansion, better audio, and serious power delivery, then Logitech’s dock is also well worth a second look.

However, if you’re looking for something small and portable, you might find one of the best USB Type-C hubs more to your liking as the Logitech is most certainly a homebody – and well worth a permanent spot in your setup. 

Logitech Logi Dock price and availability

There’s nothing more reassuring about your judgment on a product than when you feel a pang of guilt inside when having to start things off by mentioning its price. Talking about the Logi Dock’s price so soon does feel like I’m poisoning the well, but it’s important to point this out now so nobody’s hopes are dashed further into the review.

The Logi Dock is available in graphite or white from Logitech’s website for a staggering $449.99. However, you can shave a considerable sum off of things by shopping around at places like Best Buy ($319), Newegg ($312), and Amazon ($324). 

At its original MSRP, the Logi Dock finds itself in the same price range as Targus’ $442.99 USB-C Universal Quad 4K Docking Station – a device that features a wider variety of ports, but doesn’t feature any of the Logi Dock’s conferencing capabilities nor its built-in speakers or Bluetooth connectivity.

That being said, both devices are beaten in terms of port selection, price, and performance by one of our favorite (and somewhat cheaper at $399) docks, the CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 4. Once again, while offering better docking station functionality, this dock doesn’t include the conferencing support nor built-in speakers found in the Logi Dock. 

Logitech Logi Dock design

Logitech’s device isn’t just the best-looking dock I’ve seen — it’s the most attractive laptop or desktop accessory I’ve ever laid hands on. At a glance, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Logi Dock as a chunky small-scale soundbar because, in a way, I suppose that’s exactly what it is. 

The Logi Dock’s lid is composed of a slightly beveled, textured plastic and is adorned by five touch-sensitive buttons that can enable or disable your mic or webcam during conference calls, volume up and down buttons, and a central button used to quickly accept, or put an end to calls. There are also six perforations in the lid that house each of the Logi Dock’s six, noise-canceling, beamforming mics. 

The main body of the dock is shrouded in a surprisingly durable fabric resistant to bobbling or snaring. Not that the dock will see much travel, but you won’t have to worry about catching the material as you move the dock around to connect a new device or reposition it on your desk. 

The dock itself is angled upwards to direct its audio better, and includes underside lighting that alerts you to an upcoming call (white) or if your mic is currently muted (red). It’s a nice touch, especially if you want to avoid those awkward moments when it’s your turn to talk during a meeting only to find you’ve been on mute for the first 30 seconds. 

At 6.29 inches wide and 5.1 inches deep, the Logi Dock won’t take up much more surface area than most docks, but its height is another story altogether – standing 3.3 inches at its peak Logitech’s dock isn’t blending into the background anytime soon.

However, for all of its chunky dimensions, the dock’s slick presentation and mostly speaker-fronting design don’t make it an eyesore in the slightest. It works as a real centerpiece and can add a sense of premium flair to even the blandest of setups. 

Logitech Logi Dock ports and connectivity

The Logi Dock is cable management heaven with all but one of its ports placed squarely on the rear of the device out of sight. However, this means you’ll likely have to fumble around the back of the dock should you want to plug in a new device or USB thumb drive. But I can live with that if my workstation looks cleaner than a nun’s rap sheet as a result. 

Spin Logitech’s dock around and you’ll be greeted by DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports that can each drive an external monitor at 4K resolutions with HDR @ 60Hz, two USB Type-A 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) ports that deliver 4.5W and 7.5W of charging, two USB Type-C 3,1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) ports both serving 4.5W of charge, a USB Type-C port for the host connection with up to 100W of Power Delivery, the 230W AC power port, and a Kensington security slot. Discreetly tucked away on the side of the dock is another USB Type-C port that delivers 7.5W of fast charging. 

You’ll also find a Bluetooth 5.1 Sync button on the rear of the Logi Dock that makes it super simple to connect up to seven additional wireless peripherals and devices. If you own a pair of Logitech Zone True Wireless earbuds, you can pair them with the dock, automatically switching your audio to the earbuds whenever you wear them.

For the Logi Dock’s size, I’d expect more in terms of port selection. With a clear focus being placed on conferencing, at the very least, I would’ve expected an Ethernet port to ensure a solid and reliable connection. Nobody appreciates laggy, hacked-apart audio during meetings after all.

That being said, the inclusion of Bluetooth as a connection option does expand the dock's offerings to a large degree, with most modern wireless mice and keyboards being Bluetooth enabled. This keeps the physical ports free, expanding the dock's port offerings and capabilities by some margin.

Still, for the price you pay, the lack of Thunderbolt support or even an SD card reader does stick out like a sore thumb.

Logitech Logi Dock audio

The Logi Dock houses a pair of custom, 55mm neodymium audio drivers in an anti-vibration acoustic enclosure which provide significantly mighty stereophonic sound, with a surprisingly hefty bass emboldened by the dock’s side-mounted passive radiators.

It’s no wonder Logitech went for an anti-vibration enclosure as the bass on the Logi Dock hits so hard that without it you’d have a speaker whose bass could be accurately measured by Richter scale. It’s a little overwhelming at lower volumes and can sound slightly muddy, but crank things up and you’ll be swimming in rich soundscapes ready to be fully immersed in your next Netflix binge.

The thumping bass on offer results in so little vibration that it barely registers. Likely due to the fact that while at peak volume, your hands will no longer be on your laptop or desk – they’ll be cupping your eardrums as you shield your ability to hear from the Logi Dock’s relentless tsunami of distortion-free sound.

The careful balancing of the Logi Dock’s audio drivers isn’t just great for music and entertainment, but during conference calls; you’ll hear voices in crystal clear clarity. The fantastic volume and additional bass helped elevate voices clearly without ever making them sound muddied or muffled.

Once you’ve experienced the powerful audio potential that Logitech’s dock has to offer, its lofty price tag begins to make a little more sense. This isn’t a tacked-on extra or an ill-thought-out gimmick – it’s a genuinely impressive feature that could be torn out and sold as a high-quality product in its own right. 

Logitech Logi Dock performance

My workstation isn’t the biggest, so having the Logi Dock on hand for the last week meant I gained all the benefits of a decent sound setup and the functionality of a dock without sacrificing much space on my desk.

With 100W of Power Delivery on hand to my laptop, I never worried about running out of juice, and with so many of Logi Dock’s ports offering charge and fast charge of their own, I was never concerned about my devices running flat either. The dock's sizable 230W power supply kept everything ticking smoothly, even at max capacity.

Throughout the week, I used the dock’s ability to sync up with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet to remind me of my upcoming meetings, which I then joined with a single tap of the Logi Dock’s primary button.

The audio that came through during meetings was clear and legible at all times, though I did notice in testing that my own voice would sound thin and tinny at times. Nevertheless, the noise-canceling feature did a great job of isolating my voice from any background racket, and it was still entirely serviceable.

Hooking up an external display to the Logi Dock gave me a much larger canvas to work from, and not once did I notice any lag or stutter – just crisp and smooth images time and time again regardless of whether I used a DisplayPort or HDMI connection.

From the moment I set up the Logi Dock, I was convinced that by the end of the week, my primary concern would be with the lack of legacy USB Type-A ports on offer. However, thanks to the Bluetooth Sync button, those two ports were all that I needed after connecting my mouse and keyboard wirelessly.

Instead, my primary issue was with the lack of an SD card reader. Transferring images from my camera to my laptop became a needless hassle without one, and only left me puzzled as to why something as important to many wasn’t included in the dock’s layout.

On reflection, these are minor gripes. The overall performance of the Logi Dock was beyond what I expected. It took on the roles of two very separate devices and, for the most part, proved to be highly capable of doing both.

Bottom line

Logitech’s phenomenal dock is heavily countered by an equally phenomenal price tag, which will be the biggest hurdle for anyone to climb when considering this accessory.

The Logic Dock is a true premium offering that masquerades as a business conferencing tool while offering so much more: fantastic audio, solid support for external displays, great cable management, a decent (if archaic for the price) port selection, and a stunning design to boot.

Is it worth the average price of a PS5 console though? I’m not so sure. But if you can shop around and trim the Logi Dock’s excessive cost down to size, then you’d be gaining yourself an impressive multi-function computing companion for work, play, and everything in between.

These are not ideal speakers for critical listening. In other words, don’t expect to hear striking highs or the most subtle nuances in complex recordings. Another concern is the short cables, which can be concerning for those with a wide desktop setup.

Monoprice isn’t a prestige legacy audio brand, but it is a respectable company that sells quality audio products, from headphones to speakers. The DT-3BT is essentially a wireless version of their popular computer speakers. That means you can expect some of the same performance perks as the standard model, including crisp midrange and highs, and serviceable inputs to expand your audio setup. The Monoprice DT-3 fills that void superbly, producing neutral sound with an emphasis on midrange to enjoy exceptional vocal clarity. Bluetooth is missing, but you can still connect them to several devices, including your computer (e.g., desktop, laptop), TV or turntable via RCA inputs. There is also a headphone jack for private listening.

With less-powerful drivers than its competitors, the DT-3 does take a hit in bass and treble. It’s adequate for mixing, but those with fine-tuned hearing will find the low end limited and inaccurate when blasting boom-heavy records.

Edifier sells many low-priced computer speakers. However, the $29 R19U is an irresistible deal. Bass response is controlled well, though it lacks punch. In addition, using the headphone jack hinders audio quality, muddying up the low and midrange.

Creative speakers are famous for getting the most performance out of such tiny designs. The T60 is no exception. This dual-speaker system comes with a wide, balanced soundstage that separates mids and highs well to enjoy the vocals and details in recordings. You can connect a pair of headphones to it by holding down the surround button for two seconds, which switches the audio input to your cans of choice. SmartComms software brings advanced features into the mix such as voice detection to automatically mute/unmute yourself and NoiseClean-out to remove unwanted noises from the background in real-time.

Despite the lack of a subwoofer, bass remains impactful, giving music and movies livelier soundscapes. Something else you’ll want to be mindful of is the volume level, which can get really loud at mid-volume; 60 watts of peak power in such a tiny design will do that.

Without saying a word, Logitech just increased the price of some of its peripherals over the past few days — making it more difficult for you to buy in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

What else can I say about this, except for it being a poorly-timed price bump at a time when everyone is feeling financial pressure. I can only guess this is because of economic uncertainty, but we have reached out to Logitech for comment.

Here is a (developing) list of Logitech products that are now up to £150 more expensive than before, and some recommendations on how to get them at better prices.

Hidden in plain sight

What is most interesting about the price increases is that they are on some items but not others, which when paired with the relative silence gives this an air of “sweeping it under the carpet.”

While we wait for Logitech to confirm which products are more expensive, I’ve looked across the brand’s site and here’s what I’ve found. Bear in mind that this is what I’ve found after my time looking around the UK site. If you’ve spotted any increases, let me know on Twitter.

It is absolutely worth noting that while some of these are brand new products (meaning they will stay full price for at least a couple months), others have been around for a while and are already being discounted to far more worthwhile prices.

For example, the Logitech G923 wheel is £288 on Amazon and the G435 headset is £49. At these costs, I’d happily recommend the pair (use them myself while playing F1 22 or Gran Turismo 7). That means I’ve got one piece of crucial advice for you: look everywhere other than Logitech’s own website for Logitech gear!

Not the first (and won’t be the last)

Of course, this isn’t something special at the moment. In the face of a very uncertain economy, you’re seeing companies react by putting their prices up across the UK and EU, such as Apple’s iPhone 14 lineup and Sony’s PS5.

We do know why the Pro Racing Wheel and Pedals are more expensive, as a representative from Logitech explained the original cheaper price was a "mistake made while uploading them to the site."

Logitech hasn't responded about the other peripherals, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the economy is the reason touted by the company for this decision, though I would be interested in finding out why this has applied to some products and not others.

Make no mistake though, full price gadget shopping is becoming increasingly difficult. Our advice: wait for Amazon Prime Early Access and Black Friday 2022.

Logitech has refreshed its “Designed for Mac” lineup with an updated MX Mechanical Mini keyboard and MX Master 3S mouse, which brings some welcome ergonomic revamps for Apple fans. Not only that, but the fantastic Lift ergonomic mouse is getting the Mac treatment, too.

The Mac-only lineup has been a bit of a weird one to contend with — offering virtually identical designs and specs at the same price but limited to just one system. 

So, let’s answer the obvious questions here: what are the differences, and are they worthwhile over the pre-existing universal options?

What are the differences?

Compared to the Logitech MX Mechanical Keyboard and the Logitech MX Master 3S we've reviewed, the differences are incredibly minor. 

The MX mechanical keyboard for Mac still sports the same tactile switches that feel great for long typing and gaming sessions (for when Apple decides to give a damn about gaming). The MX Master 3S for Mac has identical quiet switches, smoother scroll wheels, and an improved 8K DPI sensor.

The alterations are incredibly minor, as the MX Mechanical gets Apple-centric function keys, rather than the universal ones you got on the standard model. Both the keyboard and mouse come in more Mac-matching colors: Pale Gray and Space Gray.

Pricing remains the same too, with the MX Master 3S for Mac costing $99 and the MX Mechanical Mini for Mac setting you back $149. For cheaper Mac-centric peripherals, the Logitech Lift ergonomic mouse also got a revamp for $69, whereas the K380 keyboard will only cost you $39.

Outlook: are they worth it?

To figure this out, you need to ask yourself two questions:

• What is my workload?
• Do I work across different computers?

If you spend 100% of your time on Macs and you’ve got a pretty intense workload like mine (several thousand words typed per day, alongside Photoshop and Final Cut Pro work), then your hands will thank you for the MX Mechanical and MX Master 3S. If you're Mac-only but have casual interactions, stick with the K380 keyboard and Lift ergonomic mouse.

However, if you work across both Mac and Windows systems, I’d look towards the universal options of the MX Master 3S and MX Mechanical. That way, you’re getting the best of both worlds. Plus, you can get the keyboard with a full number pad — great for data entry.

We spend a few days with each gaming mouse, play various video games with them, and use them casually to see how the mouse’s various features impact daily life. If it’s a wireless mouse, we pay close attention to the precision, accuracy, and delay, if any, present in all gaming mice. Nuthin’ but a “G” thang

What’s most interesting, though, is the on-screen detail. The addition of Google Play store confirms this will run on some form of Android, which has been skinned heavily with a UI that looks very much like what you get on the Nintendo Switch.

In the menu, you see the Play store, Chrome, and YouTube, alongside the Xbox and Nvidia logos. These aren’t surprising, but what is that Steam logo doing there? It seems likely that Steam Link will also get a direct integration here, too.

Will we see PlayStation Cloud gaming? Outside of downloading the app yourself, I think anything more closely tied to the system seems unlikely, but who knows? Sony and Microsoft have played together well in the past.

We don’t have any information about specs or that display, but you’d hope there won’t be any skimping on internals, given that this will have to contend with playing some rather processor-intensive Android games like Call of Duty Mobile.

This does lead to one concern in thermal management. I can't see a single vent on here for keeping those internals cool under stress. Even for cloud gaming, phones get hot fast, so this needs to be addressed.

Two no doubt companies going crazy

All in all, there’s plenty to be hyped about here. A Switch-esque gaming system with a nice-looking UI and support for Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now.

Now, the only real question left is price. You see, the market for controller attachments for smartphones has exploded with the likes of Backbone One (even resulting in a PlayStation edition), the GameSir X2, and one I can’t talk about just yet.

That puts Logitech and Tencent in a difficult position with this Android handheld, as it needs to view these as its competition and price accordingly. The ball is in their court, but so far, I’m pretty excited to get my hands on it!

Logitech is partnering up with Tencent Games to develop a new gaming handheld to arrive in 2022, and it aims to advance handheld cloud gaming by including support for Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now.

As announced, Logitech G will be developing the hardware while Tencent will work on the mystery handheld's software. Both gaming giants will be working with Microsoft and Nvidia to bring their cloud gaming services to the platform, but seeing how it will "support multiple cloud gaming services," we could see more come on board.

While Logitech only hints at a launch date later this year, we have yet to know what the device will look like, or if it will offer anything other than cloud gaming services. Both companies are going all in "to deliver on the exciting promise of gaming from the cloud," but it will see a lot of competition from both popular gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck (which also supports cloud gaming), along with phone controllers like the Backbone One for iPhone and Gamesir X3 for Android. 

Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamers around the globe,” said Tencent general manager Daniel Wu. “Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the frontiers of gaming devices.”

Logitech G manager Ujesh Desai continues: "As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and it’s why we partnered with them.”

It will be exciting to see what both Logitech and Tencent come up with, especially if it turns out to be a more affordable device than the gaming handhelds already on the market.

Whatever the case, you can sign up to get the latest updates about the device on Logitech's website. In the meantime, find out why the Xbox handheld already exists (sort of) — it just needs a Game Pass app. 

Logitech dropped the Aurora Collection: a series of PC gaming accessories in a range of colors that are designed to be gender inclusive. But that inclusivity comes at a steep price, and we’re getting some serious “pink tax” vibes from these.

This range includes keyboards, mice, a gaming headset, and a recoloring of the Blue Yeti Mic to match. While this sounds like a positive step for peripheral design, we’ve spotted some problems — namely that becoming “inclusive” has translated into higher-priced items with smaller batteries.

Pretty, but pricey

A good example of this comes in the $200 G715 and $170 G713 gaming keyboards, which pack per-key RGB lighting, a selection of three GX mechanical switches (clicky, linear, or tactile) and a cloud-shaped palm rest. The G715 offers either Bluetooth or 2.4Ghz wireless connectivity with 25 hours of battery life.

Compare this to the G915 TKL, which Logitech list at $230, but is always available for $200, which packs all the same tech into a slimmer, metal body and a 40-hour battery life, and you’ll understandably start to ponder why the G715 costs just as much, but offers less for your money.

For a bigger, more confusing price difference, look to the wired keyboards, as you can snap up a Pro X keyboard for $20 less than the G713. Of course, with the latter you’re getting that volume roller, but is that really worth that much extra?

There is a slight exception that proves the rule in the Logitech G735 wireless headset. It packs Blue VO!CE microphone technology that allows you to modulate your voice and an audio mixer. Inside, you’ll find a 56-hour battery life (with LEDs turned off), and both USB wireless and Bluetooth connectivity.

Sounds good on paper and at $230, it is $30 over the Logitech G Pro X, which packs similar specs, but halves the battery life and lacks bluetooth.

Elsewhere, there is the G705 wireless gaming mouse, which has been designed for smaller hands, but also comes with an 8K DPI sensor and 40-hour battery life for $99. This is another questionable price, as you can snap up the similarly-sized G503 with a 25K DPI for the same cost.

This all leads up to an eye watering grand total of up to $530, which you could increase by a further $150 if you purchase all the accessories, such as the G735’s $20 ear pad bundle or the $40 heart carrying case for the headset and mouse.

Logitech's take

So let's answer the key question here: is Logitech charging more for brightly colored, 'gender inclusive' gaming accessories? The answer to that is in a bit of a grey area.

We reached out to Logitech for comment, and the company understandably stood resolute behind its product line: "We set the pricing for our gaming products based on their feature sets and builds rather than the target audience."

"Our base colourway is White Mist, which expands on the current offerings in our gear. Pink Dawn and Green Flash were added additional color options to expand our customization," the Logitech representative continued. "We did extensive user testing to determine those colors and those were both the front runners from our community."

While there are some differences in the feature sets for sure, such as the patented LIGHTSPEED wireless connectivity, some of them seem to be compromises for the Aurora Collection, such as a weaker battery life for the G715. 

We'll let you form your own opinion about this, but like many PC gaming peripherals, my first piece of advice will be to always wait for a sales event. They are always discounted!

Gigabyte makes some of the industry's best gaming laptops, and the G5 (KD-52US123SO) is no exception. This gaming rig has a 15.6-inch (1920 x 1080) 144Hz display, 2.7-GHz Intel Core i5-11400H CPU, 16GB of RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics, and a 512GB SSD.

Weighing in at 8 pounds and measuring 10.15 x 14.21 x 1.09 inches, the Gigabyte G5 is larger than some competing laptops. Though we haven't tested this particular Gigabyte G5 model, it has an average rating of 4.4 on Amazon.com, and many positive reviews praise its speed and power. Other users appreciate its solid performance with hardware-heavy games, not to mention the expandable storage option — something you rarely see on most gaming laptops. 

In short, the Gigabyte G5 puts powerful performance at your fingertips, and it's a solid choice if you're in the market for an affordable gaming laptop.

Prime Day 2022 is starting to heat up, and we've already found some great laptop deals to kick off this unofficial retail holiday. Behold: the Acer Aspire 3, a 17-inch laptop that's packed with a Core i5 processor, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. Not to mention a beautiful 1920 x 1080 LCD screen to view all your favorite vids in hi-res.

As of this writing, the Acer Aspire 3 was on sale for $379 on Walmart's website, which makes this one of the cheapest gaming laptops we've found for Prime Day. Originally priced at $499, that's an impressive savings of $220. 

Prime Day madness aside, the Acer Aspire 3 was already affordable (for a 17-inch Windows 10 laptop, anyway), and this config is loaded with a capable array of hardware under the hood, including a full HD IPS display; 11th-Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU; Intel Iris Xe Graphics; 8GB DDR4 RAM; and 256GB NVMe SSD.

We haven't reviewed this specific model, but the Acer Aspire line has been around for a while now, and as reviewed, the Aspire 5 (originally priced at $549 as configured) made for a good middle-of-the-road laptop. At this price and increased screen size, however, the value increases to some degree. (Or 1.7 diagonal inches, if you prefer.)   

You're unlikely to get the best battery life out of this beastly bad boy, but if an outlet is never far away from your primary workspace, the Acer Aspire 3 might be a good addition to your home office, man cave, or dorm room.

Who says your headset can’t be an accessory? Coming in at $79 (currently $59 on sale), the Logitech G435 Lightspeed offers a variety of colorful designs to suit any form of fashion that best fits you. The best part? It offers great battery life. The headset is also eco-friendly, made with a minimum of 22% recycled plastic.

Though it offers some pretty cool features and an expressive design, it also comes with a few downsides. The headset lacks good sound performance at times, which will dampen your vibe. The microphones, though they are hidden beamforming mics, are extremely sensitive and pick up a lot of background noise. I would hesitate to put this anywhere near the best gaming headsets list.

Logitech G435 Lightspeed design

The bright and lively design of the G435 model I received makes it possible to see this headset from a mile away. The model I reviewed is made with a vivid blue and neon pink color, but don’t worry, you can tone it down with a nice white and lilac purple color, or go for a black and neon yellow (neon yellow is only located on the coils near the cuffs, so it’s not too bold). 

For those of you trying to go green, I’ve got some great news for you. The Logitech G435 consists of at least 22% certified post-consumer recycled plastic. Besides that little fun fact, there isn’t too much that stands out with the design. It feels very cheap, since it is made with mostly plastic. I’m almost a little afraid I’ll break the band if I bend it. With that being said, the headset is a little more affordable, costing $79 on Logitech’s website (currently $59 on sale). 

The pink padding on the cuff has a hexagonal pattern all throughout, and in the middle of the cuffs lay the exposed plastic that houses the audio drivers. On the outside of the left cuff is the power button, the volume buttons, and a mute button. At the bottom of the blue cuff is the Type-C charging port and two microphones. Meanwhile the right cuff has nothing. Both cuffs also feature a nearly hidden, glossy Logitech symbol, as well as “G435.” 

On either side of the headset, going up towards the headband, are pink coils that lead up to a pink-and-blue stitched band that blends into a near purple.

Unlike other chunky headphones, the G435 provides a slim earphone cuff, with pretty stiff cushions. It’s bearable, but it's a tight fit, and for those of you who may have larger ears or sensory issues to tightness, you may find it to be a bit uncomfortable. 

The top band, which is covered in elastic, has prominent plastic pieces that rest entirely on the top of your head, once again making it incommodious. 

The best part is that you don’t need to use a wire to make the headset work; it has wireless capability with the use of a USB receiver. If you decide to use the cable, it won’t work with your laptop, meaning that you can’t charge the headset and use it at the same time.

While playing Dungeons and Dragons on Foundry and talking to people on Discord, my friends boasted about how well they could hear me and how crisp my voice was. However, I constantly had to adjust the music/game volume in Foundry and the volume of Discord in regards to how well I could hear them. Loud sounds like explosions made the speakers vibrate, causing a shaky and muffled sound.

While playing Fortnite (ahaha don’t judge me), I noticed that it was harder to hear and distinguish footsteps compared to the loud banging of gunshots and explosions. When I was one-on-one with someone, and there was another person shooting at me, I wasn't able to distinguish the direction the other person was coming from, putting me at a huge disadvantage.

Hopping onto God of War, there was a noticable difference with sound performance, where it seemed like there was a better proportion to the left-to-right ratio. The sounds of weapons clashing and all of the attacks never outbalanced the sounds of the vocals from Kratos and Atreus. Definitely a better suiting game for the headset.

Hitting me right in the feels, the first song I listened to while using the G435 was “Glimpse of Us” by Joji. I was originally skeptical by how much the speakers could handle because of how it managed gaming. Once the piano intro hit my ears, I was soothed and immersed into the beautiful melody. Even when the piano picked up in a louder tone, the speakers did a beautiful job of playing the music and balancing the vocals. 

Okay, so it passed a nice and soothing song test; lets try something with more of a beat. While listening to “Squash” by Lil Dusty G, I was interested to see how the headset handled the low bass and combination of beats the song produces. Again, I am not disappointed. Playing the song as loud as I could, the G435 again handled the sounds with ease, playing each set of cues with precision and crisp quality. 

When trying out the song “I’m Ready” by Jaden Smith, which is filled with many different instruments and tunes, there was a noticeable difference with the vocals where it was more congested. It seemed like the G435 had a harder time equalizing the vocals with the background music.

The G435 takes an interesting approach when it comes to the microphone. Located on the left cuff are two built-in beamforming mics, which make it so that you don’t have an annoying boom microphone waving around in front of your face or getting shoved into your mouth or nose. 

Though Logitech claims that the dual beamforming mics are able to dull out sound, it didn’t seem to do that for me. While playing D&D with a group of friends, my pup chewing on her treat could be heard in the background as if she was the one wearing the headset. I constantly needed to mute myself so background pitter patters of her paws, or the chewing noise, wouldn’t get picked up. 

Overall, it picked up my voice very nicely. It was crisp and clear, but I’d recommend being in a closed off room and not a public space that is shared with other people — or even pets. 

Logitech G435 Lightspeed features

The Logitech G435 can be paired with any device with Bluetooth audio connectivity, macOS, and the Nintendo Switch. 

The thing that makes the G435 stand out is definitely the fact that it doesn't have a cabled mic flopping around in front of your face and mouth. Instead, it has beamforce mics (two in total) that pick up your voice (as well as some other sounds around you) from the side of your headset. 

The headset is also said to last up to 18 hours of life, which I could attest for. I was able to get in a few D&D sessions, which can range from four to six hours per session.

Bottom line

This Logitech G435 Lightspeed offers some pretty nifty features, but may not be the greatest thing if you’re looking for more of a professional set up. Its colorful and unique designs make it stand out from other headsets — it’s a fun-looking pop compared to the usual headset design. 

With the starting price being at $79, it might be a good headset for young children or teens who are just getting into gaming. There would be no concerns with wires being everywhere nor the microphone breaking — and having it paired with a phone makes it extremely useful for a younger person. For a better headset within the same price range, I’d recommend the HyperX Cloud Alphas – and it’s only $70 on Amazon as of this writing.

The best mouse is a subjective title, as not all hands suit any single computer mouse, nor do all workstations accommodate every device. However, there are some fantastic peripherals out there that are great for catering to specific needs.

While you’ll be hard-pressed to find a laptop that doesn’t at least supply you with a serviceable touchpad, nothing beats the sheer performance and versatility of even the most basic mouse. Taking things one swipe further, an external mouse can help up your game by improving performance and comfort for hours on end.

What is the best mouse?

Released in 2022, the Logitech MX Master 3S had a very easy task: make small but impactful improvements on what has been the best ergonomic mouse for years in the original MX Master 3. And it should come as absolutely no surprise that that's exactly what Logitech did.

It’s a fantastic candidate for a reliable mouse, and whether you’re using Photoshop, Premier or Microsoft Office, the MX Master 3’s ergonomic design ensures comfort over longer periods of work. While you won’t see the MX Master 3 topping any lists as the best gaming mouse, it remains entirely serviceable in all but the most ultra-competitive of games thanks to its comfort and accuracy.

Its seven well-placed buttons afford a high level of customization for any task at hand, and two machined steel scroll wheels make vertical and horizontal navigation of even the largest documents a breeze.

But while the improvements are subtle, they make the experience all the more impressive. The Darkfield high-precision sensor resolution has been upped to 8000 DPI for ultra accuracy and responsiveness, the click switches are a lot quieter, and the company's done all this while still maintaining that same 70-day battery life. That means you can be confident in its performance and uptime.

Packed with some of Logitech’s most premium features, this peripheral isn’t exactly a budget buy, and picking one up could set you back as much as $99. While that does mean you could probably bag the still impressive MX Master 3 for cheaper, and we will continue to demand a left-handed version of this mouse until the company listens, this true all-rounder with zero compromise will always be a sound investment.

The Razer Basilisk Ultimate is a high-performance 20K DPI gaming mouse that'll leave its mark on more than just the leaderboards. With 11 programmable buttons, 14 customizable Chroma lighting zones, and customizable scroll wheel resistance, the Razer Basilisk really does give you ultimate control over your gaming experience.

Razer claims its optical switches to be the fastest in the industry, using infrared beams to transmit clicks instead of physical contact switches. The Basilisk Ultimate is a right-handed mouse by design and doesn’t offer a left-handed variant. However, there’s the cheaper left-handed version of the Razer Naga, or the ambidextrous-friendly Logitech G Pro Wireless.

For under $50, the SteelSeries Rival 3 is a budget buy that packs enough punch to handle itself across a variety of uses. Designed with gaming in mind, the Rival 3 contains a TrueMove sensor that tracks on a one-to-one scale. Capable of handling resolutions of up to 8,500 DPI, the mouse is accurate, responsive, and reliable.

For a budget peripheral, it strikes the perfect balance between work and play. While not the most ergonomic of designs, the SteelSeries Rival 3 is lightweight and comfortable to use over long periods. The Rival 3 isn’t as flashy or over-designed as some gaming mice tend to be. The RGB lighting isn’t obtrusive and can be disabled if you choose through the SteelSeries software.

Two thumb buttons on the left side of the mouse break what is an otherwise ambidextrous form, but for a truly ambidextrous mouse within a similar price range, there’s always the Logitech G900.

The MX Anywhere 3 is Logitech’s attempt to take many of the features found within the MX Master 3 and cram them into a mouse more suited for travel. A similar level of style and elegance remains, though now in a more compact and snug shape. It’s a perfect companion for those who find themselves on the go, as the MX Anywhere 3 is small enough to fit in a pocket, durable enough for travel, and features a battery life that lasts upwards of 70 days.

Cutting down on more than size, the MX Anywhere 3 is a premium mouse with a less-than-premium price. That reduction in price doesn’t equate to a reduction in features, though. You can still control multiple workstations simultaneously, save your button configurations into app-specific profiles, and enjoy superfast scrolling thanks to Logitech’s machined steel MagSpeed mouse wheel. The inclusion of Logitech’s Darkfield sensor also means you can reliably use the MX Anywhere 3 on practically any surface and still receive a fantastic and accurate experience.

That being said, this smaller profile won’t suit all hands and is better suited as a travel backup. However, those with small-to-medium-sized hands shouldn’t find this as much of an issue. Left-handed users would have to give up on the two thumb buttons located on the left side of the mouse, though if this is a problem, there’s a more ambidextrous alternative in the Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse.

Tilted and curved to accommodate a relaxed grip, the M575 ergonomic trackball mouse takes the strain off of your arm, allowing you to control your cursor without moving the mouse an inch. It’s great for cramped workstations or anyone struggling with wrist fatigue from traditional mice.

Powered by a standard AA Battery, the M575 can power its 2,000 DPI advanced optical sensor over an impressive 24-month lifetime. The tracking is smooth and responsive, though it can be a head-twister at first if you’re not accustomed to a trackball interface. However, adjusting to the trackball across a variety of tasks isn’t as challenging as you’d think, especially for competent texters or analog stick users who are more used to having their thumbs take control.

At 5.1 x 2.9 x 3.3 inches and 4.7 ounces, the Logitech Lift is a curiously tall peripheral that towers over your keyboard. While there’s definitely a sleekness to the curves, the overall design does take some getting used to.

On top, the silent magnetic scroll wheel has a grippy rubberized texture to launch a fast scroll and stop at precisely the right place on a column of text. The silent click switches also have a nice tactile feel to them. All in all, it's a great mouse for getting stuff done.

It would be a mistake to think that all computer mice are the same or that aside from aesthetics or additional buttons that one mouse performs like any other. This is where mouse DPI comes into play and where understanding this value can be important depending on your needs.

No touchpad can substitute the intuitive control and easily accessible buttons of even the most basic mouse. If you don’t already have a main driver for your PC or laptop, check out our best gaming mouse and best budget mouse pages.

When buying a mouse, you’ll see that DPI is one of the many features listed. So before you go on purchasing things, here’s everything you need to know about mouse DPI.

What is DPI?

DPI (Dots Per Inch) is a measure of “dots” that your mouse is able to read per linear inch of movement in one direction. A dot in this instance is the mouse’s internal count of distance traveled within an inch. Combined with another value, called a Polling Rate, which is the frequency in Hertz at which the mouse sends this DPI information to your PC. These are the two components that make up an optical mouse’s sensitivity.

Where some of the confusion comes in is that options exist in Windows and Apple computers to adjust parameters at times called “sensitivity,” “speed” or “acceleration,” which do so without changing a mouse’s internal DPI or polling rate. These values change the speed at which your operating system will move the cursor across the screen without taking in more data. These options exist primarily because a basic mouse doesn’t allow you to change the DPI or polling rate values, so for those users this is the only choice to speed up or slow down their cursor. And for standard applications, this is good enough. But if you’re using a mouse that allows for these adjustments, it’s generally recommended you leave the operating system level options at their defaults and adjust the DPI or polling rate of the mouse.

How do you change mouse DPI or polling rate?

Any true adjustment of a mouse’s DPI or polling rate can only be done in software designed to work with that mouse. Most Logitech mice are compatible with software tools like Logitech Options that allow these kinds of adjustments. Many of the  best mice come with physical buttons and on-board software that let you change the DPI directly from the mouse. A quick check of the manufacturer’s website should pull up the resources you need to get this done.

What DPI or polling rate should I use? Is higher always better?

A typical DPI range is somewhere around 400 to 800 DPI. This value can be lowered usually to 100 or raised upwards of 26,000 in the best gaming mice. The polling rate for most mice is 125 Hz with the typical high performance or gaming mouse capable of 1000 Hz, up to 8,000 on current high-end models. Some mice may advertise high DPI numbers which do indicate a very capable (and probably pricey) mouse but bigger numbers aren’t always better and you should know when you should adjust these values and when you shouldn’t.

A very high DPI value creates issues with control, a slight flick would send the cursor off even the widest screen at values approaching the high thousands. A higher polling rate is probably always best, but not if you’re running a low-end machine or if you need to be especially power conscious on a laptop or wireless mouse’s battery.

To a large degree, your comfort and physical capabilities should dictate your DPI. A less sensitive mouse uses more desk space to move across the screen and would require either more pick-up and put-downs of the mouse or more arm movement. This can be a big factor if your mouse also comes with adjustable weights, which give the option for more resistance when pushed but would make frequent lifting an annoyance. People who like a heavy mouse might benefit from a higher DPI. Slightly higher DPI might also work better for people with limited desk space. 

However, the frequent, fine wrist adjustments needed for use with a high DPI mouse might be difficult or even painful for some people to put up with over extended periods.

Where you tend to see real-world applications of high DPI values are in precision graphical editing on very high resolution and refresh rate monitors and for fast-paced gaming. In both applications, a high DPI value will give you more accuracy with smaller movements and allow you to make very quick maneuvers in games like first-person shooters or real-time strategy titles.

Mouse DPI and gaming

This comes down to preference and you’ll hear a lot of arguments on both sides of the fence about high vs low DPI for use in the same exact game. Part of this is because different mice are designed to be used differently. A shorter, rounder mouse like the Razer Viper 8K is meant to be held in a claw grip and moved primarily with fine finger and wrist movements and therefore will sport much higher maximum DPI options. Mice like the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite are longer with a bigger palm rest and are meant for a full-handed palm grip where a lot more of your movement comes from your arm and would require a lower DPI value. The latter seems to be more in fashion with the rise of very large mouse pads over recent years, which accommodate a very large movement area and a lower DPI.

You may find that some mice have DPI toggles or “sniper” buttons that lower the DPI a certain amount when doing things like aiming down a sniper scope in a game. Other mice have software capable of setting up different profiles for games at different DPI.

What that all boils down to is that you won’t find a definitive “best DPI,” even if you never plan to tinker with it once you get it to a place you like, everyone is likely to settle on a different number. But knowing exactly what DPI is should help you find that perfect DPI for you.

Logitech’s MX lineage has given us the impressive MX Master 3 mouse and the so-so MX Keys external keyboard.

But in a world where working from home has exploded, the latter of those two — a full-size keyboard  — can be too big for whichever corner of the house you’ve managed to convert into an office. Enter the MX Keys Mini, which says sayonara to the number pad and gives you a smaller, more versatile option in a remarkably portable package.

At $99 (£99), the same as its larger predecessor, is it worth that similar amount of investment? Let’s find out.

Logitech MX Keys Mini design

At 11.7 x 5.1 x 0.8 inches and a weight of 17.9 ounces, the MX Keys Mini is a sleek keyboard that shaves width and mass off the original MX Keys — 5.3 inches off the width and 10.7 ounces to be specific.

Beyond that, it’s business as usual with a similarly sleek design that helps it visually blend into any desk setup with ease. Of course, with the Mini, you get the benefit of two additional color finishes, a pale gray and rose option alongside the classic graphite. You can pick up an Apple-specific version of this Mini, or one that works across both Windows and macOS with control keys clearly marked.

One issue I didn’t expect when compared to the full-size is the function keys. Now that the three dedicated bluetooth channel keys are shifted over to F1, F2 and F3, Logitech sacrificed some keys, and I don’t agree with some of its choices. For example, instead of an app switcher keys, window view and track skip media controls, we have a screenshot key, a dictation key, mute/unmute microphone key and an emoji key. Dictation is important, but the rest seem redundant to the keys people actually use to navigate the OS.

Also, the restrictive permanent tilt is frustratingly still here. As someone who has spent a long time with the original MX Keys, I’ve learned to get used to this angle and its touch type benefits. But I can see this being limiting for those who may prefer a more flatter typing profile or a greater angle to bring the keys closer to you.

Logitech MX Keys Mini software, lighting and battery life

The MX Keys Mini works right out of the box. But if you want the full experience, you can install Logitech Options, which gives you the app specific presets across office apps and the likes of Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, battery level indicators, button and key customisation and much more. Having the versatility of shortcuts for each app I use is warmly welcomed.

And a shoutout to Logitech Flow, which allows you to switch the mouse cursor and keyboard between devices by moving it to the edge of one screen and onto the other. Not only that but you can click and hold and drag items between them (or use control c and v to do so). This is a godsend for those with more than one device (like a personal computer and a work laptop). 

As for lighting, the Mini shares an identical setup to the regular MX Keys, employing backlit chiclet keys with variable brightness. And even with the reduced size, Logitech claims the battery life remains the same: 10 days with backlighting on or up to five months if you turn it off. 

In my own testing I hit this promised time, which makes for a worry-free battery that when it comes down to working your standard eight-hour shifts, means you will only be charging this once in a blue moon.

Logitech MX Keys Mini performance

This may be a membrane keyboard, but the attention paid to the travel of each key press, the dish indents that your fingers fall into, and the matte finish on every key, make the MX Keys Mini a joy to type on. 

A key difference making this feel more premium is the switches, which are quiet and springy with a scissor style compression that gives each key a more tactile response. 

And at 89 wpm with 99% accuracy on the typing.com test (my average with other keyboards is around the 84-85 wpm mark), it’s size reduction has made no difference to the potential to work fast on this thing.

My only gripe so far is that Logitech Options has occasionally failed to detect the keyboard when connected via Bluetooth – it’s a strange reverse situation to what happened with the MX Keys. I’m sure this will be fixed with a software update soon enough.

Bottom line

The Logitech MX Keys Mini fails to address some of the problems of its bigger sibling, while creating new ones of its own due to the size reduction. The function key choices are odd, the fixed angle is not going to be for everyone, and the price is expensive.

But when it comes to being a keyboard for raw productivity, the MX Keys Mini is incredibly comfortable to type on. Each key is sized just right and the travel distance is just right so as to keep your fingers engaged while minimizing discomfort.

If Logitech can update the function keys and give us a variable angle in the MX Keys Mini 2 (or whatever the company ends up calling it), then this would be a must buy. At the moment, it’s only an OK option.

Logitech knows how to make a quality keyboard. If you’re a gamer, you’re familiar with its line of mechanical gaming keyboards. And, if you happen to be a professional esports player, you’ll likely have come across the Logitech G Pro Keyboard.

What happens when you throw the incredibly popular multiplayer online battle arena League of Legends (LoL) into the mix? You get a K-pop-infused, tournament-grade mechanical gaming keyboard based on alternate universes of in-game champions that form a group known as K/DA. I know...that wasn’t the answer I was expecting, either.

As part of Logitech G’s first portfolio of officially licensed LoL gaming products, the Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard is inspired by the global virtual music group of the same name, made up of LoL champions Akali, Ahri, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa. There’s also Seraphine, who’s technically not a permanent member of the pop group but Logitech G made her a mainstay in their unique K/DA-inspired gaming gear. 

I didn’t know there was confusion over Seraphine being a true member of K/DA. I didn’t know the music group’s debut viral hit POP/STARS has more than 450 million views on YouTube. I also did not know who K/DA was before getting my hands on this keyboard. What I do know is the niche lore behind the keyboard screams “how much do you love LoL to deserve to own this K/DA keyboard?”

I’m not qualified to be an honourary fan of this virtual K-pop–inspired group, but that doesn’t matter because the K/DA version of the Logitech G Pro keyboard is a wonderfully designed piece of gaming equipment for both diehard fans and ill-informed gamers (like myself) alike. But can its performance steal the spotlight? Let’s find out. 

Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard price and configurations

The Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard isn’t expensive when compared to other mechanical gaming keyboards. However, it will still set you back more than you may expect from a tenkeyless keyboard. The keyboard is priced at $109.99/£109.99 and is available in U.S., Deutsch (Qwertz), Français (Azerty), and Dansk layouts. It also only comes with GX Brown Tactile key switches. 

The original Pro Keyboard is available at the same price. It is largely the same as the K/DA version but comes in a standard black color and features GX Blue clicky mechanical switches. Optional key switches would’ve been nice, but the K/DA design makes the special edition version a better choice. I find it more striking than many of the best gaming keyboards around. 

Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard design

Many of the best gaming keyboards today rely on mesmerizing RGB lighting effects to be the center of attention. They create something of a mirage hiding an otherwise standard matte black design (with the exception of HyperX Alloy Origins 60’s marble-like spacebar). In comparison, the Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard is a stylish work of art. 

The K/DA keyboard shares the same build as the Logitech G Pro keyboard, but sports a charming re-skin. I love the engraved lines that create a shattered glass aesthetic, and how the white side of the keyboard seamlessly cuts into a swish black frame with scattered blue lines. The cherry on top is the crown placed above the arrow keys.

Along the top of the keyboard, you’ll find a “K/DA” logo branded in shiny metal, along with “League of Legends” labeled on the right side of the keyboard. That’s for the best, because when compared to the collection’s mousepad, the K/DA keyboard can be for anyone, even those who aren’t Seraphine superfans.

The keyboard’s tenkeyless form factor is made of thick plastic that feels sturdy when typing. It creaks slightly when too much pressure is applied, but never felt like it was going to break. All-in-all, it looks and feels like a quality build, standing strong when placed on a flat surface. Speaking of, its underside has two unfoldable stands that make it easy to adjust the angle of the keyboard — at 4 degrees or 8 degrees — to suit my comfort. Plus, the rubber feet prevent the keyboard from wobbling.

With dimensions of 14.2 x 6 x 1.3 inches and weighing 2.1 pounds, the K/DA keyboard seems on the chunky side. But it is considerably lighter and smaller than the Corsair K70 RGB TKL Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (14.2 x 6.46 x 1.6 inches, 2.6 pounds). If you’re after a keyboard with more pizzazz, the K/DA keyboard will turn heads. 

Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard connectivity and support

The Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard uses a unique detachable micro USB-to-USB Type-A braided cable to connect to devices via a USB 3.0 Type-A port. Throwing in a 1.8-meter (5.9 foot) cable is always welcome, especially since it makes it easy to place in a laptop bag. The lengthy cable also allowed me to place the keyboard wherever I needed it on my desk. 

The three-pronged design is random; it didn’t seem any more secure than plugging in a regular micro USB connection. It would have been nice to see a more modern USB Type-C output so users can swap their preferred cables, but the K/DA keyboard is based on the original Logitech G keyboard released in 2017. Still, a slight tweak would have been welcomed.

The Pro K/DA keyboard is compatible with laptops using Windows 7 or later and Apple devices running macOS 10.11 or later. In other words, the best systems to play LoL on. 

Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard keys

Logitech’s G Pro K/DA keyboard is labeled as a “tournament-grade keyboard” designed with professional esports players in mind. You’ll find the original Pro keyboard has claims of being “tournament-proven.” And while both keyboards remain largely the same, they come with different key switches. The original model uses GX Blue Clicky switches, while the K/DA version has GX Brown Tactile switches. 

Fans of audible, tactile feedback will prefer the standard Pro keyboard, but the GX Brown Tactile switches strike the perfect balance between being clicky and silent; they’re a pleasure to use. While pressing down on keys, there is a minimal, yet noticeable tactile bump felt with each keystroke, while the clicky sound isn’t too loud or distracting. It’s great when gaming, but somewhat less convenient when typing. The keyboard has a 50g actuation force and 1.9mm actuation distance, making keys sensitive to touch. The keyboard also has a comfortable 3.7mm of travel distance.

These specs are great when gaming, especially with the impressive 1ms report rate, but I found keys to be easy to accidentally press when typing wordy documents, emails, or messages. When I put my typing to the test using 10fastfingers.com, I averaged 60 words per minute using the keyboard, which is far less than my usual 70 wpm. It takes time to adjust to the low actuation force, so I kept accidentally pressing other keys and spend lots of time pressing the backspace key to delete accidental typos.

While I enjoyed the fluidity of typing, I found the keycaps were too chunky and easy to press. However, other users will have personal preferences as to which keyboard switch is best suited to their needs. If you find yourself gaming more than typing, you won’t be disappointed by the K/DA keyboard. 

Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard gaming

Much like other tournament-grade keyboards, the Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard boasts 100% anti-ghosting so it doesn’t mistakenly register another key. The keyboard also has 26-key rollover, which means if 26 keys are pressed at the same time, it will register each one. The best gaming keyboards feature full N-Key rollover (NKRO), but 26 keys should be more than enough — even for those with speedy fingers. 

It would be a crime not to play LoL to test the K/DA keyboard. Despite being atrocious at the MOBA, I tried all the different hotkeys to quickly cast a support spell on my allies using the F-keys. As you might expect, I could do it all with ease. The keyboard’s switches were satisfying to press, and I found no issues with keys not registering. The 1ms response rate meant that, as soon as the key reached the actuation point, the input had registered.

The GX Brown Tactile switches are also meant for first-person shooters, so I tried playing LoL’s other popular title: Valorant. While in-game, my movements felt precise, and I was easily toggling from walking to hiding my footsteps to crouching for better aim. 

Logitech G Pro K/DA keyboard software

Logitech G uses its Logitech G HUB software to customize the K/DA keyboard to their heart’s content, and the options are first-rate. I’m a sucker for RGB lighting effects, and Logitech G’s Lightsync offers some of the most creative hues. Just about every color on the visible spectrum can be used in various effects, from a twinkling starlight effect lighting up each key randomly to an “Echo Press” that seamlessly stamps a different color onto a key when pressed before slowly changing back to the original color. It’s a lot like pressing on your skin and leaving a soft imprint that quickly fades. 

There are also several different animations, including “Ocean Wave” and “Verticool.” However, my personal favorite is the “Lightning” effect that lights up keys in quick bursts in a lightning-type pattern.

The HUB also lets users customize what keys are disabled once they press the “Game Mode” button. That means you can disable more than just the Windows key when playing games. What’s more, you can completely edit key commands in games you have installed right in the hub, as it even shows what each command does for each game.

There are 12 programmable F-key macros that you can name, create and assign. While this is a handy feature, being limited to only using the F-keys wasn’t ideal. They are usually out-of-reach when playing competitive games at a standard level. Having the option to program other keys would be a huge perk. 

Bottom line 

If LoL is your go-to pastime and you’re a fan of K/DA, you shouldn’t need much convincing to get the Logitech G K/DA gaming keyboard. The included Key switches strike the perfect balance between being clicky and silent, the programmable F-key macros are great for MOBAs, and it's one of the more striking keyboard designs around for a fair price. If you’re not a K/DA fan? Well, the same perks apply.

The keyboard is built with MOBA players in mind, hence the 12 programmable F-key macros. However, the everyday standard gamer may not use those keys outside of games like LoL. It’s also worth mentioning that this isn’t the best keyboard for anything outside of gaming, seeing as keycaps can feel sensitive when typing.

Remember pens? We used to use them before the world decided it was much easier to slam our fingers onto square buttons with letters on them. As it turns out, the digital age still has a lot of uses for them. Microsoft’s Surface Slim Pen may be tough on your wallet with its sizable $144.99 price tag, but it is one of the most impressive styluses on the market.

The updated Surface stylus differs from the original Surface Pen by taking the more flattened shape of a carpenter’s pencil. This is likely to prevent any unnecessary rolling and to potentially help align the pen better in its new wireless charging cradle. Microsoft has also improved compatibility for Surface products across the board, including support for tilt shading in the Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Laptop 4.

The Surface Slim Pen features 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and near latency-free results from each stroke. From sketching hobbyists to digital artists, the Surface Slim Pen has something to offer, but the stylus is by no means exclusively their domain. Microsoft’s impressive handwriting recognition software can convert your writing into text with remarkable accuracy, and anyone who has ever spent time writing out math equations will love the ability to quickly draw them out instead. There’s a world of potential when it comes to a peripheral like this. Whether it’s used for education, business, creation or play; for the right person, this could be a Surface Laptop must-have.

The Xbox Wireless Controller is a natural match for any Windows 10 system with nearly universal support among PC games. The most recent version includes textured rubber grips, more tactile shoulder bumpers, and a sorely needed D-pad improvement. It plays well across a huge range of games and feels great thanks to its ergonomic form and layout. With a typical price tag of $59.99, all that’s left to do now is figure out what to play.

Surface products aren’t known for their gaming capabilities, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck playing Simple Mahjong forevermore. There’s an old idiom that says a poor workman blames his tools. But if you ask me, that’s all incompetent blacksmith propaganda. When it comes to competitive gaming, and especially maximizing the potential of every last millisecond, some tools just don’t cut it. High response times, low refresh rates and sub-par FPS numbers are all contributing factors that can hamper your gaming potential. After all, the faster you can see what’s going on, the faster you can react. However, capturing the precision and speed of that reaction is equally paramount, and it’s something gaming mice have been striving to perfect for years now.

Enter the Logitech G Pro X Superlight. Available in black or white for a princely sum of $149.99, this hefty price tag isn’t for nothing. The Superlight is as premium in build as it is in price, with cutting-edge sensors, high-performance wireless, wider Logitech compatibility and fantastic battery life. Having had the chance to get to grips with the Superlight, I can confidently say that its on-paper boasting translates into real-world performance.

Logitech G Pro X Superlight design

It’s not often that a product arrives hoping to improve upon its predecessor by offering less of the same. The G Pro X Superlight has seemingly done exactly that. As a successor to the massively popular Logitech G Pro Wireless, the Superlight has some big shoes to fill. Interestingly, it does so with smaller feet.

Gone is the RGB Logitech G logo from the back of the G Pro Wireless, and in its place is the same logo in transfer-form. The optional thumb buttons have also left the building, with the Pro X Superlight giving up on an ambidextrous-friendly design by locking two thumb buttons to the left side of the mouse. The dedicated DPI button on the base of the G Pro Wireless has been removed, as has the LED column; the latter is replaced on the G Pro X Superlight with a single multicolor LED, indicating five color-coded DPI speeds.

This sounds like a lot has been pulled out of the Superlight, and if you love RGB (and awkwardly placed DPI switches) then you’re somewhat out of luck. Probably the most groundbreaking decision is not sticking with the G Pro Wireless’ customizable thumb buttons. While the mouse is technically still usable in the left hand, locking the thumb buttons to the left of the peripheral makes it clear that Logitech has catered the Superlight to the right-handed market. These changes do have a purpose though, and it’s only once you get your hands on the G Pro X Superlight that you can begin to fully understand it.

Weighing just 2.2 ounces (61 grams), the Superlight lives up to its name. What’s more impressive about this feat is that Logitech has managed to achieve such weight without peppering the Pro X Superlight with holes. To trim down weight and reduce movement friction, many manufacturers adopt a honeycomb chassis. Aside from triggering anyone suffering from trypophobia, such decisions often come at the expense of comfort and integrity. Logitech has however sidestepped this option entirely, choosing instead to retain a full-frame design made out of sturdy, smooth and superlight plastic.

Pairing this lightness with the new zero-additive PTFE feet (which now cover a much larger portion of the peripherals base), leaves the mouse feeling like it’s floating on air. Wherever you place it, the Superlight’s combination of weight reduction and higher grade PTFE results in an unparalleled glide across a variety of surfaces.

There are five programmable buttons, each feel sturdy and produce a satisfying click. The left and right mouse buttons particularly stand out as impressive, with Logitech’s click tensioning system giving them a tight and springy feel. The textured grip of the notched mouse wheel catches even the lightest of swipes, while the wheel itself remains sturdy and tight for precise scrolling. The two thumb buttons are positioned well, with a similar springiness to that of the left and right mouse buttons.

Beyond these changes, very little differs between the G Pro Wireless and the G Pro X Superlight. While the weight distribution is now more centralized, the chassis dimensions and matte finish of the G Pro Wireless have carried over to the Superlight without any noticeable alterations.

There’s no upgrade to the included charging cable either, with the Superlight still dependent on micro USB. Upgrading to a USB-C connection would possibly have given the Superlight more to differentiate itself from the G Pro Wireless. However, with increased battery life to suit 70 hours of constant motion, you shouldn’t find yourself spending enough time using the charging cable for it to become a real issue.

The bottom of the Superlight features Logitech’s impressive 25K HERO sensor, a power switch and a magnetic disc that twists off to reveal a hide-away for the included wireless receiver. Also included with the Superlight is an alternative PTFE-coated disc that can be swapped out for a little more glide. It’s worth noting that the magnets holding these discs in place only secure the left and right sides; this means they can sometimes shift up or down if they encounter enough friction with the surface below. While it didn’t happen often, there were occasions where it caused me to feel a subtle, but noticeable drag while using the optional PTFE disc.

As for what’s under the hood, the Superlight features a 32-bit ARM microprocessor, Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED wireless technology, onboard memory and POWERPLAY compatibility (for use with Logitech’s wireless charging system). So, while the G Pro X Superlight has trimmed down on weight and inputs, it still retains the fantastic technology, performance and sleekness that made the G Pro Wireless such a popular choice. 

Logitech G Pro X Superlight features

Aside from its ultra-light upgrade, one of the most impressive things about the G Pro X Superlight is the aforementioned 25K HERO sensor. The optical sensor is a dual-lens solution to maximize performance, without sacrificing efficiency. The HERO sensor allows for lift-off distances of just 1.2mm, a maximum speed of 400 inches-per-second and a maximum resolution of 25,600 DPI.

Obviously, running at such a high DPI would be borderline ineffective for almost all computing tasks that aren’t run on gigantic displays. However, using these high DPI resolutions in tandem with lower sensitivity settings in games allows for smoother turns to be made. That being said, I get the impression that beyond a certain DPI, this change in smoothness becomes barely perceivable. This to me makes the 25,600 DPI figure seem like more of a marketing strategy than a legitimate selling point.

There is also the potential for higher DPI resolutions to contain higher numbers of tracking errors. However, in my testing, I didn’t happen to encounter any. This isn’t to say the Superlight has eliminated this issue, it’s just that I didn’t notice any issues during my time with it. Of course, you can ignore the Superlight’s ultra-high DPI offerings entirely and stick to resolutions you are more familiar with and comfortable using should you want to.

The G Pro X Superlight also features Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED wireless technology. This wireless solution is Logitech’s answer to the concerns of latency and connectivity issues when comparing wired and wireless mice. Capable of a 1ms polling rate, Logitech has gone all-out to ensure that its wireless focus isn’t simply a gimmick. Through extensive optimizing and testing, Logitech claims that its wireless connectivity is not just competing with, but outperforming some competitor’s wired solutions.

Most of the Superlight’s advanced features are handled through the Logitech G Hub, which is essentially Logitech Options without the training wheels. If you’re unfamiliar with either, this is Logitech's proprietary software for handling the inputs and settings of your mouse. Here, you’ll check your battery level, fine-tune up to five DPI presets, adjust your polling rate, and save configurations into app-specific profiles.

Logitech G Hub is much more informative than what’s available within the productivity-focused Logitech Options. Sliders are well labeled and the amount of options you have when configuring button presses is much broader. Assigning tasks to buttons is a simple drag-and-drop affair, and you can pick from shortcut keys, individual keys, system tasks and shortcuts for software like Discord or Overwolf. You can even create and save your own macros for some advanced keybinding, something sorely missing from Logitech Options.

One great feature of the G Hub software is the ability to enable G-Shift mode. Assigning G-Shift to a button on the Superlight means that while this button is held down, every other button switches to a secondary action. This can turn the G Pro X Superlight’s five programmable buttons into nine programmable buttons, offering a little more versatility when it comes to MMOs, strategy games, or controlling broadcasting software like OBS on the fly.

Logitech G Pro X Superlight performance

The G Pro X Superlight impresses from the very first movement, and it only gets better once the PTFE skates are broken in. It takes a few hours of use before the feet are truly worn in, but once they are, it’s one of the smoothest experiences available. This is almost hovercraft levels of glide, making sweeping movements with the mouse a breeze.

Whether you use a palm, claw or fingertip grip, there’s generally enough space to accommodate each finger. While the Superlight has no real ergonomic features, its size and shape make it easy and comfortable to grip. One added benefit to the G Pro X Superlight being so weightless is that you barely have to exert any effort to move it, and your hand can remain fairly relaxed.

It kept my wrist and arm free from fatigue for a decent amount of time. The only issue I ran into was when using my index and middle finger to cover the left and right mouse buttons. In this position, my pinky would often have nowhere to sit, and uncomfortably bend over the curved chassis — often resting on top of the surface I was using and creating more drag. That one particular position aside, the Superlight remained super comfortable.

While I tested the Superlight across several gaming genres, it’s fairly evident that it was designed with competitive shooters in mind. It worked well enough in MMOs like Champions Online and Runescape, with the G-Shift function affording me quick access to Hotbar skills. Similarly, the G-Shift function came in handy selecting my squads in strategy games like Men of War and Company of Heroes. In fact, regardless of which game I opened, the Superlight was fast, accurate and responsive. But Logitech’s G Pro X Superlight really comes into its own when you need to push those qualities to their extreme.

Playing Counter-Strike is where I appreciated the handling and smoothness of Logitech’s peripheral the most. While it didn’t vastly improve my reflexes or turn me into a walking murder-bot, the Superlight’s weight made every movement feel exact. And the fact there’s so little resistance to those movements meant I wasn’t over/undershooting with my aim as much (after some practice).

While using the Superlight, I didn’t need to charge the battery a single time, which left me entirely confident of Logitech’s claims of a 70-hour battery life. In testing, using the mouse while connected to the micro USB cable did add a noticeable amount of drag and weight to the experience, but it was far from distracting.

Consistency would be a keyword to describe how the Superlight performs. Whether in games or with general desktop use, there’s no dip in quality to be found. Its ease of handling makes the Superlight stand out, but its blend of top-tier-tech, comfort and precision make it one of the best peripherals you can lay hands on.

Bottom line

The Logitech G Pro X Superlight is premium inside and out. A host of fantastic onboard technologies make this peripheral one of the fastest, lightest and most reliable wireless gaming mice available. And, if you want a satisfying mix of style, durability and performance, there really aren’t many mice on the market that pull everything together as well as the Superlight.

For those who already own the G Pro Wireless, the $149.99 price tag attached to the G Pro X Superlight is possibly a little steep for a weight reduction of roughly one AA battery. Unless having the lightest mouse possible is your primary focus, your best bet may be to simply upgrade the feet of your mouse to virgin grade PTFE skates to improve its stock glide.

However, if you’re new to Logitech’s G Pro series of gaming mice, don’t let the price tag scare you away so easily. Taking inventory of the Superlight’s features, there is a genuine price-to-performance correlation here. Logitech has earned its stripes when it comes to delivering top-quality premium products, and the Logitech G Pro X Superlight is no exception.

When a review unit of the Logitech ERGO M575 landed at my doorstep, part of me recoiled in horror. The other part of me is seemingly deeply petty, and gleefully rubbed their hands together over the idea of finally getting payback for the Marble Mouse’s annoyances from some twenty-two years prior. I can’t lie, I had preconceptions before I’d even so much as opened up the box it arrived in. Nevertheless, I was willing to give the M575 every opportunity to change my mind.

Logitech did not disappoint. The ERGO M575 is a modern revamping of one of Logitech’s earlier offerings, the M570. While staying reasonably faithful to the earlier peripheral’s design, the M575 is slightly larger, with refined curves to further improve on its comfort. Logitech’s Advanced Optical Tracking sensor replaces the previous iteration’s laser sensor, which boosts the maximum sensitivity from 1200DPI to 2000DPI. The M575 also features Bluetooth connectivity in addition to a 2.4GHz wireless connection, and an increased battery life of up to 24 months.

Available in off-white or graphite for Windows, macOS and iPadOS devices, the M575 seems worthy of its $49.99 price tag on paper. But is it worth the shift in operation from laser mouse to trackball? I spent a week relying solely on the M575 for all aspects of my computing to get as good an answer to that question as possible. I hate to show my hand so early on this one, but yes, the Logitech ERGO M575 definitely changed my mind about trackball mice.

Logitech ERGO M575 design

The word ergonomic doesn’t usually inspire much faith in a product’s design. As a general rule in life, I’ve found that what looks good is uncomfortable, and what is comfortable is so ugly it would vomit at its own reflection. Think orthopedic shoes, or somebody wearing a slanket for prime examples. 

Yes, at first glance the ERGO M575 does look like somebody has shot YouTube’s popular red hot nickel ball into the side of a perfectly functional mouse. But as unconventional as it appears to anyone unfamiliar with this style of mouse, the blend of swooping curves and rounded edges that make up the body of Logitech’s peripheral grow on you the more you look at it.

One thing partially responsible for this is Logitech’s decision to keep the mouse modest. There’s no RGB and no unnecessary amount of inputs bedazzled across its chassis. There are just two additional programmable inputs, jigsawed into the edge of the left mouse button. This places them within reach of the slightest of index finger movements, without ever becoming a cumbersome intrusion. The single-axis notched mouse wheel is positioned perfectly for quick usage, and delivers subtle, but clear feedback on each scroll. 

The star of the show is, of course, the cerulean blue trackball. Its lower positioning retains the natural posturing of your hand and it glides with ease on every gesture. Its optical sensor has an accuracy of up to 2,000DPI, which is fairly accommodating considering that the default setting Logitech decided upon is 400DPI.

Present on the underside of the device are controls to turn the mouse on/off and a button that switches the device between a 2.4-GHz wireless or Bluetooth connection. There’s also the battery compartment which stores a standard AA battery and doubles as a nifty hide-away for the wireless USB receiver.

Logitech ERGO M575 comfort

The ERGO M575 is comfortably pitched at an angle between that of a vertical mouse and the traditional mouse frame. I was impressed by how the curvature accurately mimicked my hand at a resting position. Cupping the device in my palm felt entirely natural, with the only adjustments to my posture being a slight incline of the wrist. My thumb naturally gravitated to the center of the side-mounted trackball in this position, giving me a real sense of control when in use. 

The bulkier size of the M575, along with its 5.1-ounce (145 gram) weight, isn’t much of an issue when you take into account that it doesn’t require any traveling space. With all cursor movement handled through the trackball, the larger profile of the M575 requires less space than a traditional mouse would. Across the bottom of the mouse, five rubber grips do their best to keep the device stationary. However, on smooth surfaces these can, at times, do very little to prevent minor traveling. 

The only concern I have about the M575 is its asymmetrical design. While it achieves what it was designed for — offering the user a fantastic level of comfort and support — left-handed users who prefer to stay true to their hand’s natural inclination (and don’t have the pinky dexterity of a gymnast) have no hope of coming to grips with this peripheral. Literally.

Other than that, I can’t really fault the Ergo M575 on its design. It may be the most comfortable mouse that I’ve ever had the opportunity to use. The longer I use it, the more I appreciate both its style and simplicity. I put this mouse through some pretty heavy usage across a number of days, and at no point did my wrist, thumb or arm feel anything close to fatigue. It’s a lesson in getting the job done right without having to cover up your shortcomings with garish RGB or fanciful gimmicks.

Logitech ERGO M575 features

Three of the M575’s five available buttons are programmable. Those include the two additional buttons alongside the left-mouse button and the scroll wheel click. You can easily configure the buttons within Logitech Options, Logitech's own peripheral configuration software, which is available on both Windows and macOS.

Within the app, you can set up program-specific profiles with tailored commands for each button. This could mean assigning copy and paste to buttons for quick access in Microsoft Word or setting up one-click access to shortcut keys for video-editing software. The only feature missing is the ability to create your own macros for more advanced instructions. However, there is still a sizable array of commands and key combinations available to suit most needs.

One of the more useful operations you can link to your inputs is the ability to hold down a button and use the trackball to set your pointer speed, or simply click to switch between two presets. Fine tuning the sensitivity of the trackball on the fly without needing to switch programs can be great for a quick boost in precision while working with video and audio files. However, there are no DPI numbers displayed while doing this, so you’re left to guess where you’re at sometimes. Even within the Logitech Options app, your DPI is adjusted with one unlabelled slider. It would’ve been nice to know some of the figures behind my choices, but I still got the results I wanted regardless.

It’s worth pointing out that, while setting up profiles is great, the lack of any onboard memory within the M575 means you’ll need to download the Logitech Options app onto any other device you wish to use it with in order to carry over those configurations. It’s by no means a deal breaker, but it could become a little inconvenient if you do a lot of machine hopping.

Another interesting feature of the ERGO M575 is dual connectivity. The M575 can wirelessly connect to your computer via the included USB receiver, or by Bluetooth LE if no USB port is available. Bluetooth’s notoriety for draining power is fairly well known, but Bluetooth LE is a low energy standard that vastly reduces the power consumption of your peripherals by remaining in sleep mode until woken by a command.

With just one AA battery, the M575 can remain powered with Bluetooth LE for up to 20 months. While impressive, connecting via the USB receiver still remains the ideal, as Logitech estimates that one AA battery in this mode can last up to 24 months.

Logitech ERGO M575 performance

After using the ERGO M575 in all aspects of my computing life for the last week, I can safely say that it has shattered my preconceptions about trackball mice. Logitech’s modern offering is a far cry from the Marble Mouse that haunted my early gaming days.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing, however. There is an adjustment period to be expected when making the switch to a trackball. In my first few hours with the M575, I would find myself occasionally attempting to push it around the desk, And controlling the cursor through the trackball was done with the grace of a newborn giraffe being catapulted across a frozen lake.

You’ll also have to spend some time adjusting the cursor speed in both your operating system and Logitech Options to find the right balance for regular use. If you’re a Windows user, I’d also recommend disabling ‘Enhance pointer precision’ within the pointer options tab of your mouse settings. Disabling this option removes any additional mouse acceleration applied to your movements, making the trackball feel much more precise. 

Once you’ve personalized your responsiveness, you’ll find the movement of the cursor becomes much more intuitive. You won’t be topping leaderboards in Call of Duty any time soon though. This isn’t exactly a gaming mouse after all. But you will find that movements — both subtle and large — become much easier to predict and accurately pinpoint. It’s surprisingly intuitive actually. Excuse the pun, but once you get the ball rolling on the M575, there’s very little getting in the way of adaptation thanks to its simplicity and comfort. After only a day of use, I was handling the M575 almost as accurately as I would with my regular mouse.

It was all shaping up to be a clean sweep for the ERGO M575. Until, that is, the thought about it not being a gaming mouse popped back into my head. I didn’t want to sabotage the M575 at the last hurdle, but morbid curiosity did keep me wondering.

Before I knew it, I was dropping into a Counter Strike lobby full of angry teenagers who were entirely unsympathetic to my ongoing M575 experiment. I spent the first few rounds being mocked and derided for my awful aim and general ineptitude. But remembering I had programmed one of the buttons to finely adjust the cursor sensitivity allowed me to slowly ‘tune-in’ to the sweet spot for my aim. 

While I realized my dreams of spinning the trackball so fast that I could pull off 900-degree no-scopes and crowning myself the Tony Hawk of Counter Strike had faded, I was no longer the worst person in the lobby.

My thumb almost never needed to leave the surface of the trackball, meaning I had continuous control over my aim. I never had to lift the mouse to recenter it, which would only cost valuable milliseconds in combat. And it would seem that all these years of console gaming and speed-texting had developed a keen sense of precision with my thumbs that I wasn’t fully appreciative of until this moment.

However, it may not have improved my middling gaming capabilities, and an optical mouse is, admittedly, reliably more accurate. Whether that’s due to familiarity or not, I am unsure. But I was pleasantly surprised at just how easy it was to adjust to the trackball. Not to mention performing at a recognizable level so quickly.

Bottom line

Considering  my past trackball mice issues, the Logitech ERGO M575 had an uphill battle on its hands to impress me. However, over the last week, my anti-trackball bias has been so thoroughly obliterated that I actively want to keep using it. I’ve worked for longer stretches of time without a hint of fatigue and, more than that, I do it comfortably.

It may not be the flashiest peripheral on the market. Frankly, the off-white model can look like old-tech at first glance. But there is style in both its curvy exterior and simple layout. The trackball performs wonderfully across a range of exercises, whether I edited video, working on projects in Unity, or gaming. I felt that if given enough time to adjust to the trackball in each scenario, it would reliably pay off each time.

There’s so much the M575 does right that finding issues with the peripheral almost felt like nitpicking. Yes, if you like to use left-handed peripherals, you’re out of luck. And yes, the lack of onboard memory could become tedious for some. But the overall experience I’ve had with this mouse has been otherwise flawless.

If you want to digitally write on the iPad and the Apple Pencil just isn't your cup of tea, Logitech's new Crayon might be an option.

The accessories maker on Thursday (Sept. 6) announced plans to release its $70 Logitech Crayon stylus on Sept. 12. The device is designed to be used on the 9.7-inch iPad and comes with what Logitech calls a "kid-friendly durable design." The stylus was designed with what Logitech calls "Apple Pencil technology," suggesting it might work similarly to the Apple Pencil stylus Apple has been offering for use with the iPad Pro.

Originally exclusive to school districts, the Logitech Crayon is now being pitched as an option for those who don't own an iPad Pro, but still want to digitally write on their iPad screen. Logitech said that, like Apple Pencil, the Logitech Crayon can be used to write, draw, and sketch on the iPad screen. It can also mark up PDFs or screenshots.

Despite the claim that it uses Apple Pencil technology, there's one major difference between Apple's option and the Logitech Crayon: pressure sensitivity. The Logitech Crayon doesn't support pressure sensitivity, so if you vary how much pressure you apply on-screen, it won't affect what the stylus actually draws. It will, however, adjust how weighty each line is depending on the angle of your tip.

Logitech Crayon will connect to the iPad just by turning it on, so you don't need to worry about pairing it. It also provides seven hours of writing time before you need to recharge it.

Logitech Crayon will be available for $70 when it launches at Apple's retail outlets, Apple's online store, and on Logitech.com. It'll be available at other retail outlets in October. If you're a student, you can get your hands on the Logitech Crayon for $50.

Vertical mice are apparently all the rage these days. Companies like Cherry and Microsoft have already tried their well-rested hands at creating productivity mice from a (literal) new angle, and now Logitech has entered the fray, too.

The veteran Swiss peripheral manufacturer already makes the best gaming and productivity mice on the market, so rotating the whole project by 90 degrees, in theory, shouldn't present much difficulty.

In practice, though, the Logitech MX Vertical Advanced Ergonomic Mouse ($100) is a mixed bag. The device falls victim to a lot of the same problems as the rest of the mice in the vertical space: pressure on the thinnest part of the wrist, a base that's a little too easy to move and a general sense that you could get an equally comfortable gaming mouse for the same amount of money.

But if you like the vertical format, there's a lot to recommend in the MX Vertical. The software is robust (albeit imprecise), the physical design is inventive and the wireless connectivity is well beyond reproach. I can't recommend the MX Vertical without reservation, but at the moment, it's one of the better full-featured mice in the ergonomic space.

Design

If you've never seen a vertical mouse before, the MX Vertical acts as a pretty good introduction to the style. Imagine a standard mouse flipped almost 90 degrees clockwise, with a large, ovular base on the bottom, and you've pretty much got the picture. The MX Vertical is large (3.09 x 3.11 x 4.72 inches), with a lightly textured thumb rest and a little extra space past the right button for you to rest your fingers. Whether you find this comfortable or repellent will largely depend on how you hold your wrist when you work on a computer.

Button-wise, there's a lot going on with the MX Vertical. On the face of the mouse, there's a left button, a right button and a clickable scroll wheel. On the top edge, there's a dots-per-inch (DPI) sensitivity adjuster. Just above the thumb rest, there are two thumb buttons. Flip the mouse over, and there's an on/off switch, as well as a button that can connect the MX Vertical to one of three wireless setups, then instantly switch among them. (For example: a desktop, a work laptop and a personal laptop.)

The button layout is smart and not too crowded, although constantly picking the mouse up to change between wireless settings can be cumbersome if you need to use two or three machines at once. (This comes up in office settings more often than you'd think.)

Instead, my issue with the mouse is that the vertical setup doesn't alleviate wrist pain completely; it just changes the location. It's no secret that regular mice (even fancy gaming mice) can induce carpal tunnel symptoms in computer-centric workers. The MX Vertical takes the pressure off the bottom of your wrist -- but it puts a ton of pressure on the side of your wrist.

After using the MX Vertical for two days, the right side of my wrist was stiff, sore and tender. In order to prevent the pain, I would probably have to use a gel wrist rest -- and if I need to invest in one of those, it sort of defeats the purpose of an ergonomic mouse. The other alternative is to hold the mouse without resting your wrist on a desk, but that can tire out your arm very quickly.

The MX Vertical's unconventional shape created as many problems as it solved, at least for me. I'm assuming that other users might have a different experience, though, since this design didn't occur in a vacuum.

Features

The biggest feature of the MX Vertical is its design, which is unconventional but potentially polarizing, as described above. Aside from that, there are two major selling points: the wireless functionality and the software.

On the bottom of the mouse, you'll find a button that switches among three different wireless channels. You can connect via either Bluetooth or USB dongle, and the connection seems very stable either way. This is a welcome upgrade, considering I've had trouble switching between USB and Bluetooth on Logitech mice like the MX Master. The only issue is that there's no place inside the mouse to store the tiny, losable USB dongle. Even much cheaper mice, like the Cherry MW4500, offer this functionality.

The software, Logitech Options, is more of a mixed bag. I love how you can customize almost every button with almost any command -- you'd be surprised how many productivity mice don't offer anything like this. But I don't love how setting your DPI (up to 4,000) is imprecise and handled via sliders rather than hard numbers.

With Logitech Options, you can also perform a very cool operation, where you can move the cursor off
one computer, and right onto the screen of a second, provided they're on the same network. You can even copy and paste files in this manner, although you can't drag and drop, which is a bummer.

The feature works -- which is pretty amazing in and of itself. It's a lot simpler than trying to create an ad-hoc file network between two machines. But it's also sluggish and imprecise, as moving the mouse between the two monitors is not instantaneous. It's not always easy to tell which computer the mouse is targeting, and it's easier than it should be to accidentally trigger the switch. (You can specify that you have to press Ctrl before this happens, but then you have to trade convenience for precision.)

Just having the Logitech Options software puts the MX Vertical well ahead of many of its competitors. But the program isn't perfect, or 100 percent necessary.

Performance

To gauge how well the MX Vertical functions as a productivity mouse, I used it at the office for a few days (for everything except testing games, of course). Generally speaking, it was like using a regular mouse, except that my wrist felt a lot sorer. I wound up using the file- transfer feature a few times, which was useful, but not night-and-day different from uploading and downloading files from Dropbox or Google Drive.

The DPI- and wireless-switching functions came in handy a few times, though. At work, I have both a desktop and a laptop, and jumping from one to the other with the same mouse was much easier than normal. This feature isn't unique to the MX Vertical, of course, but if you really want a mouse with this kind of ergonomic design, you can use it on three systems simultaneously without issue.

For what it's worth, Logitech claims that the battery can last for up to four months on a charge, but in practice, that's hard to gauge. You can't see the exact battery life left, or how much you've used  in a single session. At the very least, it's quick to recharge with an included USB-C cable.

Bottom Line

I was happy to put the MX Vertical away once I finished reviewing it. I didn't find it comfortable, and the vertical design made it too easy to accidentally double-click files, or move them when I meant to open them. But of the vertical ergonomic mice I've used, it's easily the best.

The MX Vertical has robust software and intelligent wireless features, with plenty of options to customize your experience. The asking price is admittedly pretty steep, but Logitech builds products to last, and you could conceivably power through quite a few years on the job with a peripheral like this.

If you're intent on a vertical mouse, the MX Vertical is about as good as they currently get. If not, a comfortable, low-key gaming mouse will get the job done just as well.

Weighing just 9 ounces, the G230 is light but doesn't feel flimsy. Its moving parts are sturdy, making it easy to swivel the ear cups so they lie flat for easy storage. The adjustable headband gives you several inches on each side to tailor the G230 to your head.

The sports-performance cloth used to line the ear cups is designed for comfort and to withstand heat and sweat. The ear pads can be removed, so you can clean them after those marathon gaming sessions.

A clip and in-line controls on the G230's 7.65-foot cable lets you easily adjust volume and mute the headset. The cable splits into two at the end, leading into separate plugs for the mic and the headphones, so if your notebook only has a combo jack, you might have to forgo using the mic during gameplay.

Sound and Mic Quality

The G230's 40mm drivers offer solid sound performance for the money. We played "Bioshock Infinite" and "The Cave" at max volume and almost blasted our ears off. Gameplay was immersive thanks to the G230's ear cups, which effectively kept noise out. We could tell the direction from which characters in "Bioshock Infinite" were yelling at us, as well as the sounds of upcoming objects, like the crackling flame of a torch in "The Cave."

There was almost no sound leakage from the ear cups, but some particularly loud noises, such as the ranting of an enemy in "The Cave," could be heard by our co-workers.

Even though Logitech touts the microphone's noise-canceling qualities, we found that it picked up a significant amount of background noise. At times, our co-worker sitting to our left sounded louder than we did, despite the mic being extremely close to our mouth.

Click to EnlargeFor just $20 more, you can get the G430, which delivers a surround-sound experience with Dolby 7.1 enhancements and dedicated software to boost performance. With the G430, we were able to more clearly distinguish the direction and distance from which people were shouting at us. The G430's mic also does a better job of keeping out background noise, as we clearly heard ourselves over a heated discussion going on beside us.

Verdict

The Logitech G230 is a good basic headset for newbies on a budget. Among Logitech's offerings, we prefer the G430, which offers Dolby 7.1 surround sound and a better noise-canceling mic for $79. But considering you can find the G230 for as little as $39, we think it's a great value for the beginning gamer.

Logitech's Ultimate Ears-branded products carry UE's legacy of lively sound with strong bass and modern design. The $199 UE 6000 is no exception, and it represents a solid first effort at full-size noise canceling headphones under the Ultimate Ears brand.

The headband has hinges that let the ear cups fold up to fit in the included zippered neoprene carrying pouch, and the removable cable that comes out of the right ear cup has an iPhone-friendly mic/controller for handling playback, voice commands and phone calls. (Sorry, it doesn't work with Android).

The outer shell of the left ear cup comes off to reveal a battery compartment; unlike Bose's QuietComfort 15, which uses one AAA battery, the UE 6000s require two AAA batteries, making the cans a bit heavier--9.7 ounces, as opposed to 6.8 ounces for the QC15. A switch on the top of the right ear cup activates the noise cancellation. The package includes a handy headphone splitter that lets you share your music with a friend, as well as a pair of AAA batteries.

Comfort

Click to EnlargeDespite their weight compared with the Bose QC15, the UE 6000s are very comfortable, with lush ear cups and ample headband padding. The ear pads easily encircle average-size ears with a little room to breathe. The headband tension seems secure enough, though the headphones will jiggle around a bit with vigorous head shaking. 

Audio

We tested the UE 6000 headphones using a variety of Apple Lossless files on an iPhone 4S, and overall the sound was very satisfying with noise cancellation activated. The sound signature is along the lines of a "smile" curve in terms of overall tonal balance, with boosted lows and highs and a recessed midrange. Bass on rock and pop tracks such as Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and Tower of Power's "You're Still A Young Man" is powerful with lots of thump, but it's just short of overwhelming and doesn't distort at high volume.

Detail is very good on such complex tracks as The Beatles' "Penny Lane," with the horns and vocals falling in a sweet spot in the mix, and cymbals and percussion have plenty of sparkle. On acoustic tracks like Dave Holland's "Conference of the Birds" and Yo-Yo Ma's unaccompanied Bach cello suites, the instruments all sounded exciting with lots of detail, though the sound may come across as too colored for audiophiles.

Click to EnlargeWe're thrilled that the sound quality isn't drastically affected by turning off the noise cancellation, though the volume does drop. The bass loses just a bit of power and highs aren't quite as lively, but the sound remains fairly well-balanced. As a side note, at higher volumes there's some sound leakage to the outside world, so hopefully you're not too shy about what you listen to.

Noise Cancellation

The UE 6000's active noise cancellation is significantly more subtle than that of the Bose cans, and there's a slight hiss that's easily washed out by music. The circuitry blocks the low-frequency din of air conditioners, engines and the general din of voices, but it does little to block out higher-frequency parts of voices and PA announcements--which can be a good thing if you're not into total isolation.

When the batteries run low, the little light next to the switch turns red and the audio skips. Logitech estimates average battery life of around 40 hours (only 5 more than Bose's estimate despite the extra battery). Unlike the QC15s, though, you can still listen to music on the UE 6000s if the batteries die.

Verdict

For $199, the Logitech UE 6000 headphones represent a very good value with solid features and extras. If you've got modern tastes when it comes to audio, you'll love the sound. Denon's AH-NC800 provide more accurate sound, and Bose's QC15 reign supreme when it comes to noise cancellation, but those headphones are $50 and $100 more, respectively. For the price, the UE 6000 offer a strong combination of noise cancellation and audio performance.

Logitech is no stranger to the iPad keyboard game. While the company's record is mostly strong -- its ultrathin keyboard for the iPad Mini received our Editor's Choice -- the predecessor to the FabricSkin Folio, the original Keyboard Folio, was somewhat of a bulky disappointment. Now the accessory maker has redone the Folio with a soft fabriclike skin over the keys, but with a largely unchanged layout. Is the remodeled texture comfortable enough to warrant the steep $149 price tag?

Click to EnlargeLogitech's FabricSkin Keyboard aims to create a miniature keyboard case that is both texturally and ergonomically crafted to match the iPad's mobility. What's impressive about this accessory is that it looks great performing both functions. We tested the black-and-white synthetic Matt leather version, but there are also other options, including a durable fabric in red, fine woven cotton in blue, woven fabric in gray, quality cotton in yellow and matte leather in blue.

On our white iPad, the black cover and frame with the white keyboard looked fantastic. When folded up like a case, the cover exudes an attractive simplicity that resembles a small but sophisticated notebook. When set up like a keyboard, our white-on-white combination could easily be mistaken as some new kind of Mac. Bottom line: The FabricSkin Folio looks very cool.

Click to EnlargeWhen closed, a magnetic lining along the top holds the case shut, but just barely. Another magnetic strip above the deck holds the iPad upright for keyboard use and does a much better job keeping things together than when closed. We sat the keyboard on our lap and typed away without our iPad flopping back. In fact, the magnet is so strong you can give the whole setup a good shake and your iPad will stay safely in place.

The FabricSkin has another safety measure: the skin itself has built-in liquid resistance to repel stray water drops from those who mix business with, well, drinking.

All of the iPad's ports and buttons are accessible through the skin, and there's a microUSB port on the side of the case to plug in a charger. The FabricSkin Keyboard weighs 1.25 pounds and measures 10 x 7.9 x 0.8 inches. That's a bit larger and heavier than the 1.06-pound Belkin Ultimate, but feels more secure.

Click to EnlargeLogitech hasn't changed the layout of its keyboard much from the original Keyboard Folio. Rounded island keys means there is adequate spacing to avoid typos, and there's enough room for folks with bigger hands.

There are iPad-specific functions for Siri, lockscreen, search and on-screen keyboard launch embedded as tertiary buttons accessible by pressing the function button and appropriate number key. Also piled onto the number keys are shortcuts for volume and music control on top of the normal secondary symbol keys.

The left and right arrow keys also have shortcuts for selecting text, which is convenient. Another feature is the replacement of the Escape key with the iPad home button.

Performance

Click to EnlargeThere are some awkward design choices that take some getting used to on the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio. First off, the Shift keys and Delete button are small. The most frustrating thing about this keyboard is that Logitech relegated the Caps Lock and Tab keys to secondary positions as function buttons above the "A" and "Q" keys. This makes it awkward when you want to MAKE IT CLEAR YOU'RE ANGRY or just want to start a new paragraph.

While the FabricSkin texture certainly feels good on the fingers and is a nice reprieve from cold hard plastic, it definitely takes some getting used to. Even good typists like us felt a little lost at first and found our fingers wandering around a keyboard that felt pretty mushy initially. Without raised, hard keys, we found ourselves glancing down to check our finger placement more often than usual and sometimes missed the space bar. We averaged 68 words per minute with 94 percent accuracy, compared with 77 words per minute at 97 percent accuracy on the Belkin Ultimate Keyboard case.

However, one of the perks of this case is that the soft material used on the keyboard is very resistant to dirt, dust and fingerprints. On top of that, the speakerlike cutout on the side of the case does a great job of reverberating the iPad's speaker for a much better audio experience.

Click to EnlargeAfter a little bit of practice and some careful finger-pointing to get to that tiny Shift key, Logitech's $149 FabricSkin Keyboard Folio becomes a stylish and modern keyboard that meshes very well with the iPad's design. While we like the fact that the keyboard resists spills, typing is less fluid than on a conventional keyboard, such as the Belkin Ultimate Keyboard, which costs $50 less. Overall, we like the FabricSkin's looks and the protection it offers, but the performance doesn't quite match up to the aesthetics.

We heard about Samsung’s game pad controller just as the Galaxy S4 was announced, and now it looks like Apple fans may have a new video game accessory to look forward to. Created by Logitech, the purported device is large enough to fit an iPhone 5 and comes with a built-in Lightning dock connector, Kotaku reports.

According to the allegedly leaked image, the accessory snaps on to the device and houses the smartphone in its center, placing action buttons and a D-Pad on either side of the display. This is different from the design of Samsung’s wireless remote, which looks similar to an Xbox 360 controller with a holster for the handset just above its controls.

 There’s also a “G” logo just underneath the directional buttons on the purported iOS accessory, which is likely to be a symbol for the name of the device. From the image, we can't decipher whether or not the controller features other buttons on its rear or sides. 

The unconfirmed leak comes just after Apple unveiled iOS 7-- announcing that the OS comes with support for third-party game controllers. Although the controller isn’t made by Apple, such an accessory could give the iOS platform a stronger foothold in the mobile gaming space. Android has taken the lead in this area more recently, with accessories such as the MOGA controller and Nvidia’s upcoming Shield gaming handheld hogging the spotlight.

iPad keyboard cases fall into two categories: ultralight designs that only protect the front of the tablet, or cases such as the $99 Logitech Keyboard Folio, which encases the iPad front and back in a plastic shell. But with added protection comes added bulk, as it's almost three times as thick as the iPad. Is this accessory worth the extra weight?

Click to EnlargeThe Logitech Keyboard Folio comes in four different colors. Our unit had a black cover with white interior, but you can also choose blue or green with a black interior and pink with a white interior. The black-and-white combo perfectly complements the white iPad, providing a clean and polished appearance. We like the subtly textured fabric exterior, which gives the device a rugged and sturdy look.

A magnet keeps the case closed when traveling and another keeps the iPad propped at the appropriate angle for typing. There's a hole in the back for the iPad's camera as well as a slot on the side for the volume controls and mute switch. A microUSB charging port, a power switch and a small Bluetooth pairing button are on the right edge.

Measuring 9.8 x 7.8 x 1 inches and weighing 1.43 pounds (2.8 pounds with an iPad), the case looks and feels like a high school textbook. This is almost three times as thick as the 0.37-inch thick iPad, so users will give up slimness for the features and protection provided by this case. By comparison, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover measures 9.5 x 7.4 x 0.35 inches and weighs 0.6 pounds; however, that keyboard doesn't protect the outside of your iPad.

Setup

Connecting the Keyboard to our iPad was extremely simple. We turned on the keyboard and a blue light above the Delete key started blinking to indicate that the device was ready for pairing. We then navigated to the Bluetooth section of our iPad settings and selected the keyboard from the list of available devices. The keyboard was then immediately available for use.

Click to EnlargeThe Keyboard Folio offers a number of iPad-specific functions, which users can access by pressing the function button and the appropriate number key. You'll find shortcuts for volume and music control as well as locking the device, Spotlight search, hiding and showing the on-screen keyboard and opening the Photos app. The left and right arrow keys also have shortcuts for selecting text, which we found much easier than Apple's tap controls for this same function. We just wish these functions had dedicated keys, as on the Belkin Keyboard Folio.

The top left button, which is usually the Escape key on traditional keyboards, functions as the iPad's home button.

Performance

Click to EnlargeThe Keyboard Folio offers fairly large, well-spaced keys on its layout that have a rounded shape. However, the left Shift key is undersized, and the Caps Lock is combined with the A key, which is awkward.

While the keys offer a fair amount of travel, they're slightly convex (rather than concave), which required an adjustment period. As a result, we averaged 55 words per minute with 98 percent accuracy on the Keyboard Folio case. That's somewhat slower than our performance when using the Belkin Keyboard Folio, where we averaged 62 wpm and a 99 percent accuracy rate.

We got used to this keyboard's quirks the longer we used the case, but typing speed still lagged behind a traditional keyboard.

Verdict

Click to EnlargeInside the $99 Logitech Keyboard Folio case, our iPad certainly felt secure. However, the typing experience was less than ideal, and the added bulk of the case nearly negates the portability inherent in the iPad. Among keyboard cases, we prefer the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, which has a better keyboard and lighter design. You also might consider the Belkin YouType Folio + Keyboard, which offers a dedicated Caps Lock key and a removable keyboard. However, if you're looking for a keyboard case that feels like it can take some abuse, the Logitech Keyboard Folio is a decent option.

If your new Windows 8 notebook has a cramped touchpad and you find the operating system's dual interfaces confounding, the Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650 ($59) offers a helping hand. The large, smooth surface makes it easier to pull off gestures and navigate both the desktop and Modern interface while significantly decreasing the stress on your wrist, digits and mind.

Click to EnlargeThe T650's surface consists of a gray slab of matte glass, which felt smooth to the touch. The integrated left and right buttons emit an audible "click" when pressed. With such business-suit aesthetics, the T650 will have no trouble blending in with the rest of your desk's denizens.

The underside is made of matte gray plastic with short, stubby legs located on each corner that kept the unit firmly in place. An on/off switch sits on the right side of the T650, while the microUSB port is on the rear edge.

Measuring 5.1 x 5.3 x 0.3 inches and weighing 7.3 ounces, the Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650 is significantly larger than any touchpad you'll find on a notebook. For example, the Lenovo IdeaPad Z400's touchpad measures 3.6 x 2.4 inches, while the MSI GX60, which is a gaming notebook, has a touchpad that's 3.3 x 2.8 inches.

Setup

A sticker on the T650's underside instructed us to go to www.logitech.com/download/t650 and download the SetPoint software, which we used to set up and configure the touchpad. We then plugged the included the 2.4GHz wireless USB receiver into our PC, switched on the T650 and it was up and running.

Click to EnlargeThere are two tabs in the SetPoint Settings manager: "My Mouse" and "Tools." In My Mouse, you can choose which gestures to enable/disable, adjust pointer speed, configure clicking behavior and more. Unifying Settings lets you connect up to six Logitech devices to the USB receiver that ships with the T650.

From Tools, you can contact customer support, install support for old-school PS/2 devices and save system reports.

One of the things we like most about SetPoint is that it shows how to perform each gesture. In the "Navigate Windows" menu under the My Mouse tab, clicking on any of the seven gestures plays a short video. Right above that is a visual representation of what the gesture allows you to do in Windows 8. These helpful hints can also be found in the Scroll section of the My Mouse tab. We really appreciate that Logitech includes this simple-yet-powerful teaching tool.

Click to EnlargeMost of the gestures that the T650 supports were easy to pull off, including upward three-finger swipe, which lets you switch back and forth between the Modern UI and the desktop. While in the desktop, a downward three-finger swipe minimized/maximized all our windows. When in the Modern UI, a downward three-finger swipe took us back to the desktop.

Swiping inward from the left edge with one finger activated the Task Switcher, while swiping inward from the right edge opened the Charms menu. Swiping left or right with four fingers when using a Windows 8 app allowed us to dock it to the left or right side of the display. One-finger inward swipe from the top opened the App Bar when using a Windows 8 app. Pinch-to-zoom was also very easy to execute. However, two-finger rotate is not supported.

Battery Life

Logitech claims that the T650 can last for up to a month on a single charge.

Logitech might have been down, but they're not out...of the gaming peripherals business. Contrary to reports received earlier in the year, the company is not discontinuing its gaming peripheral line. Instead the company is redoubling its efforts and launching 8 new products for PC gamers. Touting a "new approach to PC gaming, the collection, including 4 mice, 2 keyboards and a pair of headsets, has been dubbed the G Series.

The company is hoping to appeal to certain niches of gamers, creating mice targeting specific gaming genres. For FPS gamers, there's the G500s Laser Gaming mouse ($69.99) and the G400s Gaming Mouse ($59.99). The G500s has gaming-grade laser for precise control with a dual-mode scroll wheel, and 10 programmable buttons and a hydrophobic coating to prevent gamers' hands from sticking to the device. The G400s has 8 programmable buttons with a DPI range of 400 -4000. 

MOBA and RTS aficionados will want to take a gander at the G100s Optical Gaming Mouse ($39.99). Outfitted with an inverted trapezoid shape and buttons designed for heavy clicking action, this mouse can take a beating. 

Logitech is also releasing the $99.99 G700s Rechargeable Gaming Mouse for players that are searching for no-strings attached gaming. Logitech claims that the mouse registers 8 times faster than a USB-connected mouse with 13 programmable buttons. There's no word on battery life at the time of this writing. Each of the mice has been outfitted with new low-friction polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) feet for faster movements and a hydrophobic coating to prevent gamers' hands from sticking to the device.                

It appears that Logitech is looking to compete directly with Razer with its new LogitechR G19s Gaming Keyboard ($199.99). This latest keyboard will stream important information to gamers such as stats via a integrated, adjustable GamePanelT LCD similar to the The LCD multitouch track panel touchpad on the Razer Blade gaming notebook. There's also the $119.99  G510s Gaming Notebook that allows gamers to configure a maximum of 54 different functions across three different modes, with three macros per key.

To round out the series, the company is also launching two new headsets: the $79.99 LogitechR G430 Surround Sound Gaming Headset and the $59.99 LogitechR G230 Stereo Gaming Headset. The Dolby Headphone 7.1 surround sound-powered G430s offers 360 degrees of sound with up to seven discrete channels of audio data and a noise-cancelling mic. The G230s features a pair of 40mm neodynium drivers for immersive sound, a bendable noise-cancelling mic and soft, washable earpieces.

Gamers looking to upgrade their gaming peripherals can expect Logitech's new offerings to hit U.S. store shelves sometime in April.

A keyboard case for the iPad mini should be much like Apple's tablet: thin, light, stylish and functional. The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini ($79) is all of the above. Using its Smart Cover-like magnetic spine, this accessory protects the iPad mini during downtime and, when there's work to be done, it pairs the slate with a spry Bluetooth keyboard. Click to EnlargeThe Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini is an impressive, modish accessory. Like Apple's Smart Cover, the Keyboard mini attaches magnetically to the iPad mini, and wakes the tablet when opened. In work mode, the tablet can rest in both portrait or landscape orientation by sitting in a thin slot just above the keyboard. The back of the Logitech keyboard is a dark polished aluminum, giving it the same elegant and sturdy aesthetic as the mini.

The only drawback to this type of keyboard cover is that it leaves the iPad mini's back exposed, whereas a case such as the ZaggMini 7 protects both the front and back of the tablet.

Unlike the Luvvitt keyboard cover, which places several lights and buttons on the keyboard deck, the Keyboard mini's deck only has lights for power and Bluetooth. The small on/off switch and a pairing button are located on the right slide, along with a microUSB port for charging.

Combined, the iPad mini and Logitech keyboard weigh 1.1 pounds. That's slightly less than the Luvvitt, which weighs 1.2 pounds when added to the iPad mini, and much lighter than the ZaggMini 7, which weighs 1.5 pounds together.

Features and layout

The Logitech Keyboard Mini has a dedicated Home button that replaces traditional keyboards' Esc key, but it buries media and other iPad controls as secondary commands of the number keys. There's also no indicator for Caps Lock mode, which proved problematic while entering passwords. Secondary key options include lock, Siri, Search, Photo Gallery, and media and volume controls. The Cut, Copy and Paste keys are also secondary buttons, intelligently placed over the X, C and V keys, respectively.

Performance

Click to EnlargeWe averaged 61 words per minute with a 98 percent accuracy rating on the Keyboard mini's island-style keyboard, much better than the 53 wpm/97 percent accuracy we typed on the Luvvitt Backlit keyboard cover. Credit that performance to the Keyboard mini's responsive typing experience, which helped us overcome challenges in the button layout such as small Shift buttons. Logitech does make a couple of trade-offs to maximize the key size, including making the Caps Lock and left Tab commands secondary functions of the A and Q keys.

Verdict

Logitech's Ultrathin Keyboard mini delivers a quality typing experience in an attractive design. While we wish it had a keyboard backlight like the Luvvitt keyboard cover, the Logitech's comfort wins out. Those looking for more protection might prefer the ZaggMini 7, which also covers the rear of the iPad. But if you're looking for the thinnest and lightest iPad mini keyboard, the Logitech Ultrathin mini is the best choice overall.

When buying audio equipment, aficionados can easily go overboard in search of devices that will produce the truest sound. At first blush, a $1,000 pair of earbuds would seem to fit that mold, but Ultimate Ears In-Ear Reference Monitors perform as advertised. These custom-fit earbuds deliver some of the best audio we've ever heard.

Design and Setup

As with the Altec Lansing A1, we first had to get molds of our ears made by an audiologist. First, a piece of cotton was inserted deep into our ear canal, and then a pink silicone was injected using a plunger. We were also required to hold a bite block in our mouth during the 10 to 15 minutes it took for the silicone to harden. The audiologist then removed the forms and shipped them off to the factory.

Unfortunately, we only found two Ultimate Ears-affiliated audiologists in Manhattan. Also, for $1,000, we wish that the cost of the fitting was included with the price, as it is with Altec Lansing's. A fitting can cost anywhere between $50 to $150; our audiologist charged $75. And, no, it isn't covered by insurance.

Unlike the Altec Lansing A1s and the Sonomax eers PCS-250, both of which have soft silicone buds, the Ultimate Ears are made of a hard plastic. Initially, we were dubious that they would be as comfortable--you have to twist and turn them, like a key in a lock, to seat them properly in your ear. But once in place, they blocked as much, if not more sound, than the A1. While comfortable, we liked the flexibility of the A1s slightly more.

We liked that the braided cord running from the earbuds came with a plastic loop to help guide them over and behind our ears, and that it was detachable from the buds themselves. Though it can be argued that this connection can degrade audio quality, that's a sacrifice we're willing to make if it means spending $30, rather than $1,000, if the cord breaks.

The Ultimate Ears monitors came in a massive jet-black aluminum box with our name printed on the lid. Inside the rubber-lined box was our earbuds, along with a ¼-inch adapter and a tool to clean the buds' canals.

Performance

To test the Ultimate Ears, we listened to a variety of tracks, some of which were MP3s recorded at no less than 160 kbps, as well as FLAC and Apple Lossless files. The three drivers in the Ultimate Ears buds did an amazing job reproducing music of all genres. We heard new details on songs we'd listened to hundreds of times. For example, on Bruce Springsteen's "Brilliant Disguise," we could better hear the strums of the Boss' guitar, and the backup vocals in the chorus like never before.

While the Altec Lansing A1s did a great job in this regard as well, the Ultimate Ears produced not only a much more robust sound, but one that was more defined, too. In Billy Joel's "Piano Man," the guitar strums in the background were even more defined and bass was more present, but didn't overwhelm the other instruments.

Jay-Z's vocals on "Empire State of Mind" weren't as bright or present as on the A1, but the bass line was punchier. On Tchiakovsky's 1812 Overture, not only could we hear bows hitting the strings of the violins, but the roar of the cannons was truly thunderous, and the bells pealed as they never did before.

All of this is somewhat expected, considering that the A1 only has a single driver, as opposed to the three in the Ultimate Ears.

Verdict

Is there a difference between $500 and $1,000 earbuds? Yes. Will the average listener be able to tell? Probably not. But that's not who the Ultimate Ears Custom in-ear reference monitors are for. They're designed for audiophiles and musicians who listen to the highest fidelity recordings, and who demand (or require) the most accurate sound reproduction. Overall, the Ultimate Ears in-ear reference monitors are truly the ultimate.

Beneath the friendly, rounded frame of the Logitech Mini Boombox lie some seriously mean speakers. This small Bluetooth speaker delivers surprisingly good bass, but not at the expense of higher tones. It also has a built-in mic so you can take calls from anywhere, great for an impromptu conference call.

Design

Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the Logitech Mini Boombox has rounded edges that make it a lot more approachable than squared-off competitors such as the Spar Zephyr 300 and the Jawbone Jambox. Measuring 4.5 x 2.8 x 2.2 inches, the Mini Boombox is the same width as the Zephyr 300, but twice as thick. As a result, the 8.1-ounce speaker couldn't fit into our pocket, but we could easily slip it into a backpack or purse.

The front of the Mini Boombox is dominated by a black oval speaker grille with the Logitech logo at the bottom. The top, which holds touch-sensitive controls (volume, play/pause, previous and next track, and Pair/Phone) is a shiny black plastic that picks up fingerprints easily.

The rear of the speaker houses an On/Off switch, miniUSB port, and Aux-in jack.

Setup and Ease of Use

As with other Bluetooth speakers, we first made our phone discoverable, then held the Bluetooth pairing button on the Mini Boombox for 3 to 4 seconds. It took approximately 2 to 3 seconds more for the speaker to pair with our smartphone. After that, we were able to easily adjust the volume using either the controls on the speaker or through our phone or laptop.

While the red touch capacitive buttons on the Mini Boombox were fairly responsive, the experience would have been better if the buttons remained lit at all times. We found ourselves literally stabbing in the dark trying to find the buttons on the shiny black plastic. There were a few times when we pressed the wrong button just to get the controls to light up.

Audio Quality

For such a small speaker, the Logitech Mini Boombox brings the noise in a big way. While it's too small to pack a subwoofer, the device has an acoustic chamber that vents out the rear of the device, which makes a huge difference. In fact, the Boombox reverberates so much that the only thing that kept it from bouncing off our desk were the two strips of plastic located at the bottom. Bass junkies might find that mildly satisfying, while others might call it annoying.

Desk tremors aside, Ella Fitzgerald's voice came through clearly, and was complemented by a subtle bass on "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm." On more contemporary tracks such as "Moves Like Jagger" and "Harsh," sound was on the hollow side whether we were paired the Mini Boombox to a laptop or smartphone. The normally haunting, spacious "Summer Madness" sounded flat, but the speaker did a fair job reproducing the full spectrum of instruments. When we listened to the bass-heavy "Harsh," the lows had just a hint of distortion.

We had a better experience with the speakerphone, which provided loud, clear audio on both ends of our call. As with other Bluetooth devices, the Mini Boombox has a range of about 30 feet.

Battery Life

Logitech claims that the Mini Boombox's built-in rechargeable battery can last up to 10 hours. Users can recharge the battery using the USB port or a regular outlet.

Verdict

Small, shiny, and cute, the $99 Logitech Mini Boombox does a good job of delivering loud, clear audio for a speaker of its size. Audiophiles won't be overly impressed, and those looking for a more pocket-friendly option might want to check out the $99.99 Spar Zephyr 300. Overall, though, the Mini Boombox is a solid choice for business travelers or anyone who doesn't have a lot of desk space.

The field of appcessories--apps paired with external hardware--is rapidly expanding, and the most competitive subcategory is remote controls. The $99 Logitech Harmony Link joins the ranks of the Peel and the Griffin Beacon, enabling users to control their entertainment system using an iOS or Android phone. However, Logitech's product adds the ability to create macros, so you can turn on your entire entertainment system at once. Is this universal remote app-hardware combo the best available?

Click to enlargeThe Harmony Link is closer, shape-wise, to the Griffin Beacon than the Peel. Its large oval shape--about 5 inches at its widest point--and 1-inch height make it seem like a very large skipping stone.

The back of the Harmony Link has a mini USB connection, power, and two IR blaster ports. We wish it were battery-powered like the Peel and Beacon, and that its wall plug had a lower profile--it protruded more than an inch and a half, so it was difficult to use it in an outlet behind our couch.

Setup

Like other Logitech Harmony remotes, the Harmony Link required us to to create a free myharmony account and install a plug-in for our browser. (It only works with Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari).

After that, we plugged the Link into our notebook via USB and used the web-based installer on our notebook to set up the device. The installer was helpful at walking us through the process, but we didn't like that we had to find the exact model numbers of our TV, cable box, and receiver, which involved crawling behind our dusty entertainment console. The Peel handles this a lot better, finding everything automatically.

After we entered the info for our devices, we then set up activities--macros that would automatically turn our devices to the correct settings based on what we wanted to do. For example, if we selected "Watch TV," the Link turned on the TV, cable box, and receiver, and activated the proper inputs.

We then downloaded the Harmony Link app for our iPad (an iPhone and an Android version are also available). When we opened it for the first time, the app instructed us to enter our Harmony Link account information, and select our cable provider. It then populated the app with TV listings.

Setting up the Harmony Link the first time requires connecting the Link to your computer via USB. After that, if you make any changes--such as adding a new device--all you have to do is to sync it wirelessly with the iPad app. However, this still requires using the web-based app.

All in all, the setup process went smoothly, but it felt a bit more involved than the Peel. To be fair, though, the Peel is only designed for watching TV, and it can't automatically switch device inputs.

Performance

We like the layout of the Harmony app. The top half shows the program being watched, along with the channel and a summary. Here, you have the option of saving either the channel or the show itself as a favorite. Below are smaller boxes that show all the other programs that are airing in the same time slot. At the very top of the screen are options for sorting programs by type (Children's, Sports, Movies, etc.), and time, which is broken down into one-hour segments.

Logitech's app provides a nice layout with just the right amount of information, but it could be made even simpler. When you want to change the time slot, you first have to press the time, then select the hour from the box that appears. Why not just have a slider?

The right side of the app has pull-out controls that mimic those on a traditional remote. Pull it once, and you get basic controls--channel, volume, mute, play, and pause. Pull again, and you get even more controls, such as a four-way d-pad and Menu. Pull yet again, and you get a number pad as well as other commands, such as Pay-Per-View. All in all, it's a smart way to keep your most-used controls within easy reach without cluttering the screen.

A search box lets you look for shows, but here, too, we have a few minor quibbles. For one, it only searches the time slot currently selected, and it doesn't search within program descriptions. For example, when we wanted to find out when the Yankees were playing in game five of the ALDS, a search for "Yankees" didn't turn up anything.

A settings menu in the upper left-hand corner lets you block channels, a welcome feature for parents.

Verdict

Anyone who's used one of the Logitech Harmony universal remotes knows how invaluable they are when it comes to consolidating remote controls. At $99, the Harmony Link is $100 less expensive than the Harmony One remote, and you get to see program listings, too. If you're just planning on using the device to watch TV, we recommend the Peel and its innovative program recommendations. But if you want one device to rule them all, you'll find the Harmony Link to be precious.
