Which Linux Version Is Right for You?

Ubuntu has become the unofficial face of Linux, and for good reason: It provides a distinctive XPlike feel without having to deal with the some of the more frustrating aspects of the Windows experience, and comes closest to mainstream adoption thanks to its inclusion in the Dell Inspiron 1420N notebook and support of more than 40 languages. Like other Linux distributions, Ubuntu comes bundled with free and open-source applications such as the Ekiga Softphone VoIP service, Evolution e-mail client, Firefox Web browser, Pidgin instant messenger, OpenOffice productivity suite, Rhythmbox music player, and Totem movie player. Like Debian and gOS, you can create multiple desktop work spaces, and the OS also includes a very cool and easy-to-use migration tool that will import your Windows wallpapers, bookmarks, and settings into the new environment.

Pros for Ubuntu

Easy to acquire, as Ubuntu comes preinstalled on the Dell Inspiron 1420N and Dell XPS M1330 notebooks; large support community.

Cons for Ubuntu

Lacks the polished look of gOS Rocket.

We Recommend Ubuntu for...

Users looking for a solid out-of-the-box Linux experince on a standard-size notebook.
