Hands down, the most comprehensive security suite for Macs is Intego’s Internet Security Barrier X5. It includes three standalone security programs that each have the most aesthetically pleasing interface of any security software program we have ever seen. VirusBarrier X5, which sports an on-demand scanner that looks like a car dashboard, protects your files by detecting and eradicating all known Mac viruses. NetBarrier X5’s interface has a fire-prevention motif, complete with fire extinguisher icons to put out Internet attacks from hackers, vandals, spyware, and Trojan horses. Lastly, Personal Antispam X5 filters your Apple Mail or Microsoft Entourage e-mail program, sorting spam into its own folder so you can keep your inbox spam-free. It’s easy to configure different filters for your inbox, including attachment and URL filters. In fact, all of these tools were a cinch to use, and running scans in the background didn’t noticeably slow down our system. Automatic updates for each of the programs ensure your protection from the newest threats.
