Ideal for untethering your notebook, a wireless all-in-one can let you print in one room while doing work in another. These devices also copy, scan, and fax. But which model offers the fastest and most impressive performance without costing a fortune in ink cartridges? We ran five models under $200 through a battery of tests to find out.
We tested the printers’ speeds over Wi-Fi, using the same network, and with all of the printers located on the same desk so that distance from the router would not be a variable. Then, we tested the printers’ speed when connected via USB. On both speed tests, we used a two-page, black-and-white Word document; a colorful 6-page PowerPoint presentation; a 2-page PDF with one page of fine print; and one 12-megapixel, borderless photo printed on both 4 x 6 and 8.5 x 11-inch paper.
