Apple iPad

It's good to be the king. Apple's first tablet set a high standard, and probably sits tip-top of your dad's wish list. Weighing 1.5 pounds and sporting a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768-pixel multitouch display, the iPad is made for on-the-go entertainment and (light) productivity. Of course, Apple offers a compelling selection of iPad-specific apps, including top-notch games. Dad can download books from the iBookstore, organize photos with the built-in Photos app, and keep track of schedules with the Calendar and Contacts features. The iPad also offers Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

If it's anytime, anywhere web access he needs, spring for the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. For $130 more, they'll enjoy 3G access with a data plan from AT&T or Verizon Wireless. Verizon's version requires a separate MiFi mobile hotspot, but you can use it to connect your iPad, laptop, and up to three other devices at the same time.

Kodak PlayTouch

Kodak's latest take on the pocket camcorder craze is the PlayTouch, which features a 3-inch touchscreen that will let Pop view clips and change settings with the swipe of a finger. He can also trim footage right on the device, as well as extract still images from videos. Along with capturing full 1080p HD video, the PlayTouch is web-friendly, letting him share clips on Facebook, Flickr, or YouTube with the touch of a button. The camcorder records videos and 5-MP stills to SD/SDHC memory cards. To better see the 3-inch touchscreen and tweak videos on the spot, the PlayTouch's LCD screen has an anti-glare shield.

Samsung UN65C8000

At press time, this was the largest LED LCD 3D HDTV available so it's perfect for the family room, or, ahem, the household man-cave. It comes with two pairs of 3D glasses, and like all top-of-the-line 3D sets, Samsung's 8,000-series models are web-ready (you need a Wi-Fi dongle) and also support Skype video calling with a separate camera/mic array.
