What You Need

A Mac or PC, a webcam, SightSpeed’s free software, and any Internet connection though broadband is recommended. The basic version is free. The Plus version ($9.95 per month) supports four-way video calls and features such as unlimited video mail storage.

Ease of Setup

Software installation was fast and straightforward, although techies have plenty of custom configuration options. SightSpeed immediately identified our camera.

Video Call Quality/Features

Excellent video quality. Audio and video synced perfectly, and there were no drops or other hiccups. It’s a snap to record videos (up to 30 seconds each for the free version) and then send them to friends.

What Needs Improvement

Interoperability with other video chat services would be great.
Verdict: If you’re going to stay in touch via video, this is your best bet.
