The Cons

The software lacks Blu-ray capabilities.

There isn't much about the product we don't like, and you shouldn't hesitate to buy it.

123 Copy DVD is DVD copy software that comes with all the latest decryption options and format converters. This software allows you to make an exact copy of any DVD, whether you buy it from a store or make it yourself. It lacks the ability to copy Blu-ray Discs, but that is a minor issue since our focus is primarily on DVDs in this review.

123 Copy DVD has an impressive feature set. It gives you a wide array of tools that help you clone, copy and edit your movies. We should make a legal disclaimer and say that piracy is wrong and you should use this software only for legal purposes. Now that is out of the way, one of the primary features we like this software for is the ability copy scratched DVDs. Say you have an old favorite movie you love but your player won't recognize the disc because its scratched. There is a good chance that a copied version of the DVD will work in your player. This does not always work, but when it does, it's a lifesaver.

If you're looking to make a backup copy of a DVD you purchased at the store, you'll be pleased to find that 123 Copy DVD has an innovative decryptor. Commercial DVDs are encrypted to prevent piracy. The CSS decryptor contained in 123 Copy DVD breaks the encryption and allows you to back up your DVD library. This also allows you to eliminate the DVD's region code so you can play movies you bought overseas in the United States and vice versa.

123 Copy DVD produces an exact 1:1 copy of the DVDs you choose to replicate. This is a great feature, but you will run into some problems because most DVDR discs are what's known as DVD5. Most commercial DVDs are DVD-9 dual layer. That means you won't be able to fit everything from a commercial DVD onto a DVDR. 123 Copy DVD has a few ways to solve this problem, including choosing exactly which files you want to copy. For example, you can choose to just copy the main feature film from a commercial DVD and leave out all the extra features such as commentary tracks and trailers.

Another feature we particularly like in 123 Copy DVD is the ability to simply rip a VOB file from a DVD. This file can live on your hard drive, with no DVDR needed. You probably don't know what a VOB file is, but that's okay because there's really no reason you should. This software gives you the ability to convert the VOB file into a more recognizable format that's playable by most digital media players.

Lastly, we should mention that 123 Copy DVD is more than just a DVD cloner. The software allows you to download videos from internet sharing sites such as YouTube, Daily Motion and Vimeo. Furthermore, it allows you to burn the files to a DVD so you can watch them on the big screen, rather than on a computer monitor.

At the end of the day, we found that there is little to complain about with 123 Copy DVD. This application not only clones DVDs to DVDRs, but it also has the ability to convert video files so that they're playable on portable devices and digital media players. We love the quality of the copies and the ability to select the exact files you want to copy. Whether you want to repair your favorite movie that was scratched by the dog or make a disc of your favorite YouTube videos, this software has you covered.
