Verdict

Avira AntiVir is a high-quality, cost-efficient product.

Avira AntiVir Premium is resource-light antivirus software with advanced technology that detects a wide range of online threats. The company's effective security products continually attract new users around the world. Although Avira offers free antivirus software, the paid version provides better protection and is worth the minimal expense.

AntiVir Premium provides extensive protection against digital diseases. Malware comes in many forms, and AntiVir Premium is prepared to uncloak nearly all of them. It detects and protects your computer from dialers, spyware, rootkits, worms, adware, malicious scripts, phishing scams, drive-by downloads and Trojans, among others. Its integrated email scanner checks all incoming and outgoing messages for harmful stowaways, and gives those it finds a one-way ticket to the trash bin.

Independent testing organizations provide the benchmarks for antivirus software. AntiVir's effectiveness rating varies by organization. It ranges from 99.3 percent, according to AV Comparatives, to 100 percent, according to Virus Bulletin, with G DATA rating it 99.6 percent effective.

AntiVir is easy to set up and begins actively pursuing threats within minutes. According to AV Comparatives, AntiVir's scanning speed is 17MB per second. Notwithstanding its high speeds, the software is resource light and won't noticeably slow down your computer. If it does, it's easy to schedule scans to run when you're not using it.

Setting the parameters and scheduling routine scans is intuitive. Even inexperienced users can easily control the application's functionality. If you encounter problems, you can use the one-click-fix button to resolve them.

AntiVir Premium's real-time scanner monitors files as you access them to block malware from harming your PC. Its proactive AHeAD (Advanced Heuristic Analysis and Detection) technology identifies malicious files based on common malware behaviors. This technology detects viruses that haven't yet been added to Avira's virus-signature database.

You can use the software to create a rescue disc for your computer's operating system. If your system crashes, simply insert the rescue disc and use it to remove deeply rooted malware from your system files.

Avira's ProActiv scanning and community network uses behavior-based technology to monitor your system. ProActiv utilizes anonymous data from Avira's vast user base to quickly identify emerging threats. Timely updates are essential for thorough virus protection. By default, updates run every two hours, although you can modify this according to your preferences.

The chink in Avira's armor is its lack of human support. To its credit, the company's website contains in-depth FAQs and a knowledgebase. A support forum provides additional assistance from fellow users. There is no email or live chat support, and telephone support requires an international call.

Apart from its sparse personalized assistance, Avira provides excellent computer security. With many advanced features, Avira AntiVir Premium is among the best antivirus applications available.
