This didn't work for me for some reason, BUT I was able to find the autosaved version by going to Word > Options > Save and seeing where the autosaved versions are saved. I navigated to that folder (under C drive/App Data for me, and I had to "view hidden folders" to see App Data) and thankfully found the file. It had a weird name and I couldn't locate it on my computer by searching for a keyword, btw. I hope this helps someone.

Windows restarted automatically to update and closed my file without saving. When I restarted Word I got the box asking if I wanted to recover. I ignored it. Gone forever? Not really cool.

Microsoft is a peice of ShiY. They now want you to save documents in their cloud, which they will later rent you access to them. I have lost all my hotmail email because they coerced me to "migrate" to msn.
