How to Upgrade Your Apple MacBook's RAM

Give your aging Apple portable a boost with this simple upgrade.

Steps:

While the stock 1GB of RAM may have been enough for 2007's Tiger iteration of OS X, Leopard will perform faster with double the memory. Thankfully, adding extra RAM to a MacBook Pro is quick, easy, and provides instant results. You'll notice that such programs as Safari, iTunes, and GarageBand load more quickly upon doubling the amount of memory in your system.

Here's what you'll need to get started:

  1. Small Phillips-head screwdriver.
  2. Small Torx-head screwdriver.
  3. Compatible RAM. The 2008 MacBook Pro supports up to 2GB of RAM, and Apple recommends distributing equal amounts of RAM in each slot. We used a Crucial 2GB Set (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin PC2 5300 667-Mhz SODIMM DDR2 RAM; $44.99 at Amazon.com.
